Chapter 176 - 167

> [Multiple monitoring stations are to be placed around SCP-CN-492.

The above-sea perimeter is restricted under military jurisdiction.

Civilian vessels are forbidden. ]

[Research into SCP-CN-492 is ongoing. Two expeditions have been completed.

Priority objective: investigate the unidentified entities inhabiting SCP-CN-492.]

The livestream audience frowned after reading the short briefing.

---

S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

"A massive ocean anomaly?"

Natasha Romanoff stared at the screen, her expression slowly tightening.

A terrible thought surfaced.

"…Don't tell me it's another giant anomaly like SCP-3000."

Nick Fury's face instantly darkened as the image of that cosmic eel resurfaced in his mind.

After thinking a moment, he shook his head.

> "The Abyss of Chaos is more likely a geographical anomaly, not a creature."

He paused, uneasy.

> "Unless… one of Yaldabaoth's six offspring is down there."

The file continued:

> [Description: SCP-CN-492 is a trench located in the Eastern China Sea.

Maximum measured depth: ~5400m.]

[Its anomalous effects likely relate to multiple ship disappearances in the 1970s.]

[Below 3000 meters, the Hume Index drops rapidly.

Signal degradation and other anomalous phenomena occur.]

Then came the shocking line:

> [Within SCP-CN-492, multiple creatures have been observed ranging from 20 to 400 meters in length.

These include colossal squid, whales, serpentine eels, starfish, and massive fish.]

The audience erupted.

> "FOUR HUNDRED METERS?!"

"That's like ten blue whales stacked together!"

"WHAT ON EARTH IS IN THAT TRENCH?!"

But that was all the file provided.

The briefing ended abruptly—just as Leon Lake appeared on the screen.

---

Leon stood on the deck of a massive research vessel in pristine weather.

There was no hint of the monstrous horrors lurking beneath the water.

> "Dr. Lake, we're beginning operations!"

A Chinese researcher in a lab coat called from a distance.

Leon followed him inside the ship—where heated voices echoed loudly from the command cabin.

---

Inside the Research Ship

"We've explored twice! Apart from the giant fish, we found nothing!"

"Are you forgetting SCP-CN-492-A?"

"You mean the humanoid giant that appeared in a diver's dream? It was just a dream!"

"You're ignoring evidence!"

"You're stretching a hallucination into a theory!"

The argument intensified until a gray-haired lead researcher coughed sharply.

> "Enough."

Silence fell immediately.

> "The mission parameters are set. Debate won't change orders."

He turned to Leon.

> "Thank you for joining us, Dr. Lake. The operation is about to start. Will you accompany us to the command room?"

All eyes shifted to Leon.

Cautious whispers followed:

> "He's the containment specialist from headquarters?"

"He looks so young…"

"He handled SCP-2845. He's legit."

No mockery. Only curiosity, awe, and nervous respect.

---

Command Center

Screens displayed the submarine preparing to dive.

A heavily specialized unit was onboard.

> "MTF-GENGZI-03, Abyss Gazers, respond."

Static crackled, then a voice replied with a hint of humor:

> "Abyss Gazers here. Diving now. Weather's nice—perfect day for dying horribly, over."

> "Exploration #3 of SCP-CN-492 begins. Good luck."

The submarine descended.

---

> "Passing 50 meters. Requesting SCP-CN-492 file review."

> "File sent."

Three silent minutes passed as the divers reviewed the document.

Finally, the commander repeated:

> "Primary objective: capture small anomalous organisms for study.

Secondary directive: gather data on megafauna."

A slight pause…

> "And, avoid dreaming about SCP-CN-492-A."

> 'Received. Current depth: 700m. No anomalies detected.'

The gray-haired lead researcher whispered to Leon:

> "492-A is a gigantic humanoid figure seen in the explorers' dreams. The file you received is not the most recent version."

"Humanoid?" Leon asked.

> "Possibly. But the Hume drop is so severe we can't confirm if it was real, psychic, or… something else."

Leon nodded thoughtfully.

> "Activate reality anchors and Hume meters," the commander ordered.

"We monitor everything from here."

And the submarine continued down…
