Chapter 12 - 44 South Burbank Avenue

Fayre and the rest of the Heroes Council took hover cycles to the address provided. They'd also brought along multiple platoons of soldiers, just in case of an ambush. Amongst them was Trypon. He was certainly intimidated by the whole situation.

It was nearly midnight at that point. Fayre took charge of the group. "Everyone, before we go in, in case we don't make it back, I just wanted to say something. It's been an honor to be able to work with you all. It truly was a privilege to be a part of this council." Everyone agreed in a sort manner that suggested mutual feeling. She shifted back from her soft side to her typical commander style. "…With that being said, watch your back, and trust nothing. Let's move on."

And with that, she began to lead them into the building. It was an abandoned apartment building, that of which it appeared to Fayre had earned its vacancy extremely recently.

She carefully led the group up the rickety wooden staircase situated in the rear of the building. She was still unsure of precisely where they'd meet the man who called himself Rune. Therefore, they checked every room on every floor.

First floor, empty. Second, empty. Considering there were fifteen floors, this could take a while. By the time they got to the fourteenth, it was still empty. She didn't have much hope that he would be here at all, yet still they continued upward.

Fifteenth floor, empty. That was it. The last floor, and nobody was there. 'Unless…' she thought. 'There's space on the roof.'

She led the group up one last flight of stairs, everybody spilling out onto the rooftop. Sure enough, facing away from the door, looking out at the city, a man sat on an AC unit.

He was dressed entirely in white, and he sat peacefully atop the machine as it ran. One of the Heroes Council members went to make a move, but Fayre stopped him. Without having even said a word, the man knew of the group's presence.

"I see you've made it," he said.

Fayre stepped forward. "Yes. We're here. Now what is it you want from us?"

The man didn't speak. Instead he rose to his feet, and levitated up, turning around midair to face the group of heroes. Fayre watched him carefully, trying to evaluate what he was plotting. The man raised his arm, and Fayre's eyes went wide.

"Everybody get down!" she yelled, before diving to the side, taking a few of the heroes along with her.

The man's arm began to glow as he released a ball of energy from it. Quickly, it traveled down towards the rooftop.

Upon impact, it exploded.
