Chapter 15 - Spirit Ejection

She removed her foot from the man's head, instead opting to trap him in her own sort of energy cage.

"Who are you working for?" she said, angrily shouting down at the man. Trypon's teleportation move might've helped a bit, but it certainly was not the solution. Rune quickly broke the energy cage and rose to his feet.

However, Fayre acted quickly, slamming him back down to the roof with a giant energy fist. He writhed in agony once more, trying to break free, but it was no use, as the hero overpowered him. Trypon, despite the condition he was in, stood up and approached Fayre.

"Listen," he said, grabbing her shoulder for support. "I think I know what's happening here."

She looked over at him, intrigued and nervous simultaneously. "Go on," she said.

"I think he's possessed."

"Possessed?"

"Yes. Just like those tales from the Old World talk about. They mention spirits who were able to possess humans and cause them to do evil things."

"So you're saying that's not actually who that man is."

"Sort of. They still possess the same abilities, but their minds are different."

"So how do you propose we free this evil spirit?"

"Well, the tales also mention how the spirits were dealt with. It was a special process called a spirit ejection."

Rune squirmed in an attempt to escape, but Fayre just tightened her grip and continued to speak.

"What does it entail?"

"Basically, the possessed human is brought to these buildings they used to have, known as possession centers, and they'd use a tool known as an ejector to remove the spirit from the body."

"That sounds a bit too complicated for my tastes. Any chance we can do it right here, right now?"

Trypon hesitated, unsure of how to stay realistic while also pleasing her in his answer. "Well, we could try to make a makeshift ejector. I'll go start gathering resources." And with that, he darted down the stairwell.

She turned back to the squirming man in her energy fist. "When he returns, we're ejecting you."

He laughed. "Just remember, the push of a button is all it takes." When she remembered this, she nearly dropped him. This also seemed to remind him of something. He turned to her once more. He began to laugh again.

"You know, you don't even need to eject me," he said. Rune's body began to tremble and shake uncontrollably within Fayre's grasp.

Suddenly, a dark, shadowy cloud extruded from the torso, levitating upward with rapid speed until it sat far above the building.

While the body fell limp, the cloud began to laugh. Fayre was shocked. It was clear what had just happened.

The spirit had ejected itself.
