Chapter 29 - Marching

Jack and his troops marched the entire day.

When they reached the forest edge in the north, bordering the territories of Black Mountain and The Silver Mountains, they had turned right and continued eastward.

Coming clear of the crazed forest, and still marching in the shadow of the silver mountains, they had encountered new beasts.

Stone goats at the common rank, almost the size of a pony in old earth had been appearing on the silver mountains, jumping from cliffs and even some who attacked his troops when they passed.

And in the new territory on their right side, some new beasts had appeared that had left Jack speechless.

Tri-horns in the uncommon rank, had appeared in herds of thousands.

The new territory beyond the forest was called 'Dilato Fields' according to the territory map, and encompassed a vast area of grassland.

When Jack first appeared, he had spawned in this territory.

The small lake with crystal-clear and calm waters, and much of the large river that came from giant lake in the center of the peninsula, was also within this Dilato Fields territory.

The 'Tri-horns' were still in Jacks mind after they had lost sight of the herds as they marched.

'Dinosaurs... Those tri-horns looks exactly like those giant triceratops from the movies...'

Thump. Thump. Thump.

For a long time Jack had followed the steady rhythm of the troops marching.

He was still trying to grasp the possibility, that this Planet Prime, indeed could encompass the entire dinosaurs races and millions more from other worlds..

As it began to get dark, Fraco was ready to move out with the 10 columns with 1000 troops in each.

The civilians had worked hard and tirelessly to fulfill Jack last orders.

Nisha oversaw everything, quickly falling into her role as the new authority in the village.

Gynda had surprisingly been a huge help and comfort to Nisha.

They had prepared the 10, very crudely made and 2 meter long carts, and stockpiled them with foods and other few essentials.

These 10 columns of troops would each bring one cart with them.

6 troops in front of them, gathered around an attached wooden log with handles, with this they pushed the cart ahead. Some other troops assisted on the sides and back.

The carts were so primitive, that they required all this manpower to move at a steady pace.

Nisha had relocated the working force after Fraco had left.

She wanted her lords resources of wood, stone and gold to be flowing every single day.

'I can do this much for him, at least...' She already missed him, as she found herself in his bed for the night.

Fraco intended to march all through the night.

He would move much slower than his lord.

But it was easy to follow 9000 troops. They had left clear signs in the ground to follow.

While Fraco marched his thoughts again went back to the new common troops.

They had indeed come out stronger from the drill-zones. But their gear were the same.

The leather armor had been restored and was better and more solid.

The spear was sturdier, polished and sharper.

But that was all.

Fraco had expected properly trained swordsmen, spearmen and archers.

'I'm sure Lord Jack didn't expect it to be like this..' But he had brought them along as his lord had commanded.

Jack continued to march during the night.

A long snake of troops marching with flaming torches.

They were easy to see in the darkness of night. And they were noticed by many things.

Some of those things, had begun to follow and track them.

These reptilians were masters of tracking and living in the wild.

They had lived here since they were translocated from their primitive world.

"Sha'ri will be pleased with these findings!" The group of reptilians agreed, and swiftly sent messengers through the night.

As morning came Xena was just two days travel from the northern beaches. She could almost see the coast in the far distance.

Arrow was already approaching the landing zone. He had arrived faster than expected, blessing the good winds.

Fraco had reached the tri-horns and was equally amazed by these large herds of huge beasts.

But he had continued forward as he could see from the tracks, that Lord Jack had not made a stop here.

Jack had marched swiftly. Only loosing around 500 troops to the commonly appearing skirmishes with different kinds of beasts.

He was now almost half way to the beach.

He continued to march for the entire day, before finally having to stop and make camp.

He had only brought a few sacks of food. And these 'sacks' were highly disposeable.

They were made of the bellies of beasts, washed down and bound with thin ropes.

He only had enough food for this single night.

"Stay close. Light some fires and fill you bellies. We will leave at first light."

Jack saw his 8500 troops spread out with pyres and campfires for more than one kilometre.

He practiced his water- and earth matter control and made a few ponds of water for the troops.

He had quickly mastered how to purify the waters so it was safe to drink.

But unknowingly, Jack and his army had been watched and tracked by increasingly larger numbers of Reptilians.

There were patches of trees many places in these grasslands.

And the grass itself, sometimes reached 1 or 2 meters in height, very suitable and easy to hide in, for this particular race.

Come morning, the sun rose high and set again on yet another day.

The morning after, Jack marched out, only filling his troops bellies with water.

It became midday before Jack was truly forced to stop.

Still following the silver mountains shadow.

Dense grasslands to his right, a patch of dirt-land filled with rocks on his left, before the mountain took form and steep growing ground and stone, with steep cliffs appeared at the base of the mountains.

[Lord System: You have found a huge iron spawn. New conditioned-based mission has appeared in the mission log]

Jack was surprised by this and ordered a halt.

'Xena told me she gained the forge blueprint after 7 days and upon finding an iron spawn... Does the mission not require me to have been here for 7 days? Was I wrong, and maybe it was just 'unlocked' after those days, regardless of when I arrived? Is it even that mission, or something else?'

Jack had no way of knowing. But his interest was piqued.

He ordered the troops to camp near the cliffs, and search for the iron.

'It must be very close since the lord system pinged me like that..'

And just right, it didn't take long before his troops guided him towards the cliffs. They climbed about 15 meters up the sides, before he saw a large area full of iron chunks.

[Lord System: Huge iron spawn. Resources: 25.000/25.000. Guardians: 500/500]

'So a huge spawn has 25.000 resources? I thought there would be more... Or has the endless gold resource twisted my view on these things?'

Jack realised he likely had very wrong feeling about resources compared to other lords.

He might even be called extravagant and spoiled at this point.

But then he quickly remembered that this area had guardians, as he heard low growls coming from a cave directly into the side of the mountain cliff.

"Prepare for attack!" He quickly yelled.

The 8500 troops instantly formed into square units, with many sole troops spread out and trying to reach their lord, 15 meters up.

Overgrown lizards with rocks protruding all over their bodies, suddenly sailed forth from the cave.

They were fast and quickly either crushed or bit the nearby troops to death.

[Rock Lizard, uncommon]

[Fortitude: 40]

[Spirit Power: 5]

Jack understood that these were pure physical beasts, and he witnessed their cunning as he watched them run to the edges of the area.

His troops were trying to ascend to the top by climbing the steep stone-littered dirt sides.

The rock lizards, with four fast legs and two meter long body, used their even longer rock-hard tail to swipe his troops down.

They crashed into the troops behind them, and many got injured, broke bone or simply died by this.

Jack was furious watching this avalanche of falling troops and instantly took action.

With his earth-matter control he quickly made stone steps in the dirt, allowing his troops to advance.

But while his troops finally had a way up and could fight back, Jack had found himself surrounded.

They kept pouring out from the cave.

But Jack suddenly realised something, as he found himself and the squad of troops with him, completely surrounded.

Having spread his awareness and used his mental energy to form the stone-stairs, he found that the stone lizards gave off the same feeling as the ground beneath him.

They answered his call when he touched them with his spirit power.

The lizards around him suddenly froze in place. They couldn't move anymore.

Jack had completely locked them down, as their bodies were highly consisting of stone.

He could not control every single one of the 500 lizards.

But in a second, the battle quickly turned, and his troops could hack them down where they stood.

Half an hour later, the battle concluded with Jack tearing the pack-leader apart limb by limb, with his ability.

[Lord System: You have slain an uncommon leader]

[Gained: Boatyard blueprint]

Jack saw the name, but didn't check it just yet.

He had to control his troops.

At least 500 had died in this battle, and around 1000 more had minor or heavy injuries.

Leaving the injured with another 1000 troops here to wait for Fraco, he continued to march with his remaining 6000 troops.
