Chapter 35 - Lake Town

As Jack had to wait a whole day for the new civilians, he spend the day with his new family of 4.

They walked the mountain and outside village, tasted the new foods the village had created and saw many new things.

The transportation carts and wagons had been properly upgraded, with metal frames and wooden planks.

New clay and wooden items were used everywhere.

Pots, pans, cutlery, games, dolls and figures could be seen in the hands of civilians and their babies.

But when evening came, Jack couldn't stay focused on his family anymore.

The 300 and some days with Sha'ri had truly changed him.

Days of starvation and being repeatedly used by a reptilian had left a scar on his soul and body.

Even if mating was actually possible, Sha'ri's body was much rougher than Jacks. Her scales and insatiable appetite had often broken his skin and bone.

Everything together had made him retreat within the depts of his mind, and even if he truly wanted to touch Nisha, he just could not do it.

At evening he went to the forest edge and began his work again.

He had previously ordered the trees at the edge of his new marching-road to be cut, and the civilians had just finished the job.

He continued building the road through the grasslands and stopped a few kilometres before the small lake.

He then walked to lake and had a look around.

The lake was roughly 500 meters wide and long. With his sharper eyes, he could clearly see the stone walls on both sides of the river, about 1.5 kilometres further ahead.

From the center edge of the lake, he walked 300 metres to the left, or north, and swam 10 meters out into the waters.

Here he began to create a new wooden wall.

Walking 500 meters back west into the grasslands, he extended the wall to this point.

He then turned and created the wall 600 meters in the other direction, towards the south.

From that point he turned back east, towards the lake, and created another 310 meters of wall here, extending another 10 meters into the water.

Now he roughly had a 300.000 square meters area to build his port town in.

The three walls each had a gate in the middle, and the front, or eastward, side had the lake.

Firstly, he continued his new road from the forest edge, and directly connected it to the gate ahead of it.

Inside the walls he continued the road halfway through.

From this point he extended the road to the gates in both sides of the lake.

He then connected those two roads into both garrison castles, and ended both sides at the bridge.

He went back to the lake-town and created rows of 1000 upgraded houses, each capable of housing 20 civilians.

This lake-town, was now ready for the new 20.000 civilians.

It was getting really late in the evening, but Jack pushed on.

He created a forge, tannery and a garrison along the new road.

On the walls he created wall-towers, starting with one 10 meters into the water on both sides. A total of 15 towers around the wall.

[Common Treasure: Wheat Field: A field of fast growing wheat. Can be harvested twice a year. Requirements: 2 square kilometres of empty space]

He went out through the road that led back to the forest and plateau.

Here he placed the 2 square kilometres of wheat fields. One on both sides of the road.

Jack noticed the wheat were already high and swaying in the winds, ready to be harvested.

Having done enough for now, he went back to the summoning area.

He still had not given the order for the troops to march to the new garrison castles.

They were gathered in the mountain village and Jack grabbed 5000 of them and went to the drill-zones.

2000 would be upgraded to common troops with archery.

2000 would be upgraded to common troops with spear efficiency.

The remaining 1000 would be upgraded to common troops with sword efficiency.

They would all be done in 24 hours.

Next Jack gave the order that every day, 5000 trash troops were to gather outside his mansion. The rest would directly march to the garrison castles.

Jack went to his mansion, bathed with Nisha and went to bed right after.

The next day, when the new civilians had finished summoning, he ordered the new 10.000 dwarfs to focus on gathering resources in the natural mines in the mountain.

In addition, they were to continue producing war material.

Shields, swords, spears and arrows. Their common leather armor would suffice for now.

He knew he had many beast furs and hides in his village, he had even gotten a thick and warm bear cloak himself, but didn't want to waste such resources on his troops.

He created 20 new forges and upgraded every house inside and out of the black mountain.

He originally had 150 houses, not counting the manually build ones.

Upgrading all to common rank, they were enough for 3000 civilians.

But he chose to directly build, and upgrade, 500 additional houses in the dwarven habitat close to his mansion.

Now a total of 10.000 additional civilians could live inside.

After this he checked the armory and found; 5.000 spears, 20.000 swords, 3000 bows, 30.000 shields and about 50.000 arrows.

Jack silently thanked Fraco for his foresight yet again.

With all these, he could easily equip the the first few batches of common troops.

Jack knew that they only retained their original spear and armor, though no longer rotten or rusted.

Next he walked with 5000 new trash troops and 10.000 new human civilians to the lake.

The 5000 troops were instantly spread along the walls and some patrols around the wheat fields.

The civilians chose a home and began to settle in.

"Father..." It was already afternoon, the sun was high, and Xena suddenly appeared behind Jack.

Turning around, Jack finally saw her properly.

Gold-blue eyes that shone like diamonds, black long hair currently braided in a long tail with flowers in the top, her skin was white with a soft honey-sunburn, 1.5 meters tall, 13 years old and already the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

Jack truly thought about his old life in this moment.

It truly felt like the only thing that had given his life true joy back then, had been reincarnated right here before him.

In Jacks eyes, in this moment, there were no doubt.

Xena was his daughter! And he was her father!

"Yes daughter?" Jack had suddenly been awakened from his daze of progress.

Xena just smiled as she saw this, the new look in Jacks eyes made her truly happy.

She could finally see a drop of genuine life, and she felt it was her presence that had drawn it out.

"I'm sorry to disturb you. Everyone know just how busy you are and that you don't wanted to be interrupted." Everyone truly felt that Jack, during this time, would not want to be disturbed.

"It's okay, I'm sure it must be important?" Jack was curious.

Xena then continued to explain.

They had all watched his work. They knew he was building for war and tried to keep up with everything essential.

But as Xena rightly pointed out.

Yes they now had vast wheat fields, but no mills to grind, no granaries to store, no domesticated animals to help with the plows.

Many things needed to be attended, and Jack realised he had to slow down for now.

"Thank you Xena, I see my shortcomings. In fact, why don't you stay here at lake-town. So many new civilians needs to have their forgotten skills cultivated." Jack suggested.

"Uhm, but dad... I really like watching over Janus..." Xena actually just didn't want to manage again, she still remembered how she had failed her own village.

But Jack had found that besides being his loving daughter, she was also a priceless hero.

He truly did need her for this task. He also thought that her 'Administrator' ability might be far more useful than it had been so far.

An administrator needed something to administrate after all.

Jack gave Xena a hug, smiling at her.

"It is decided. You will be the governor here. I expect you to create boats for transport and fishing. Transform this town with every essentials that the black mountain enjoys."

While he spoke, he guided her to the top of the walls.

From here they could see the vast grasslands reaching many kilometers on both sides of the rushing river.

Many forests and hills in the distance.

Different kinds of rich neutral wildlife all around, like rabbits, deer, wild boar and many new and strange animals.

There were herds of cow- and horse like creatures in the distance.

And further yet, though currently out of sight.

Jack knew that there were dilatos in the river, tri-horn herds of thousands.

He knew that 'Gushas' was probably roaming somewhere as well.

And probably many more and strangers things yet.

"Some day soon, all these lands will belong to your town. But before the troops are ready, I will do everything in my power to provide you with what you need."

He went down the walls with Xena and she followed him to left side of the town, behind the wheat field there.

There he placed the horse ranch.

A five square kilometres area of high and strong wooden fences enclosed it.

A large stable-house appeared before Xena and Jack, connected to the fence.

"Inside you will find the riding instructor. For now, allocate a heavy guard here and get to know him. I will send more troops soon." Jack turned to leave.

"Wait Jack!" Xena had used his name, she truly felt he was his father, but the lord she had known before any of this, in the first 10 days of her life here...

She really had to tell him just how powerful she thought he was, being capable of so much when millions of other lords had died daily in the first days.

No one on prime could possible compare to what she had witnessed in just the few days alone.
