~Kaida Orion POV~
Jealousy burned hot in my stomach, fierce and ugly, it wasn't just her strength, her presence, her beauty... it was the way Lupus looked at her, as though she was a piece of himself he had forgotten until now.
I forced myself closer to him, my hand brushing his arm. "Lupus, we need to think carefully, we don't know if...."
But he barely looked at me, his eyes stayed on her and I hated it with passion. Biat's hand brushed mine briefly, steady, grounding, when I turned, his eyes held mine... worried, protective, quietly pained and he had noticed too.
Kaelith raised her hand in a sharp gesture, from below, a horn blasted, the wolf riders shifting their formation, cutting through the enemy ranks like fire through dry grass. She didn't need to shout; her presence alone commanded them.
She turned back to us. "You have a choice, stay here and die when the flood of soldiers reaches this ridge, or come with me, and fight where the living have a chance."
