~Kaida Orion POV~
The voice split through the cavern like fire, I turned sharply, my heart leaping as Lupus was there, standing at the far edge of the ledge, half his clothes torn, blood streaking his face, but his alive. Alive and unbroken, his bow was in his hands, strung, an arrow already notched.
The assassin hesitated just a fraction, glancing back, it was enough, Biat shoved forward, forcing them off balance, while Lupus's arrow flew. The shaft sang through the cold air, striking the assassin's shoulder not a killing blow, but it forced them to retreat, sliding back into the shadows with inhuman agility.
Their golden eyes fixed on us, unreadable then, with a sharp hiss, they vanished into one of the tunnels, their steps echoing like fading heartbeats. I stood frozen, chest heaving, staring after them.
Biat coughed, lowering his sword, his body trembling. "That… was no ordinary soldier."
