Maya's POV
I watched my brother loading the last suitcase into his car with a heaviness in my chest. "Are you sure you have to leave?" The words escaped my lips before I could stop them.
"We do, Maya," he replied, pulling me into a tight embrace. "But I promise we'll visit more often."
I melted into his hug, savoring the moment. "Tell Dad I'm doing fine. No need for him to worry about me." With those final words, I waved goodbye as they drove away, their car becoming smaller until it disappeared around the corner.
Damon's arm snaked around my waist as we walked back toward his car. "Tiny one, that woman won't give up," he said, his voice tight with concern. "The building security can keep her out of your apartment, but there's nothing stopping her from showing up at your college."
