How the hell did I end up in this filthy, cramped cell?
It seemed impossible that one of my clients would have turned me in. And where was that useless cop I paid each month for information about any investigations? He wasn't among those who slapped handcuffs on me. Something had gone terribly wrong, but what? Regardless, I needed to figure out a way to get myself out of this mess—fast.
"Face the wall and put your hands behind your back," a police officer commanded as he approached my cell.
I complied without argument. I hadn't spoken a word since my arrest and planned to keep quiet. Better not to cause trouble. He secured the handcuffs and escorted me to an interrogation room where two men waited. One was the detective who'd arrested me, sporting a smug grin like he'd just won a championship. The other man wasn't familiar—who could he be?
