Maya's POV
The endless journey in this vehicle had left me completely drained. My tears had dried up hours ago, leaving my body numb and my spirit broken.
"What's that up ahead?" The driver's voice cut through the silence, and I attempted to lift my head.
"Dean't move a muscle, princess!" The man riding shotgun thrust his pistol in my direction, freezing me in place instantly.
"No way I'm stopping here," the driver muttered. "I recognize that guy. Better call the boss." He fumbled with his phone and dialed quickly. "Boss, we've reached town, but there's a problem. We can't deliver the girl to the lady's house. Her brother's standing guard outside." He paused, listening. "Not that one, the other brother." Another pause. "Understood, boss."
He ended the call and exchanged a meaningful glance with his partner, saying nothing. My mind raced with questions. If we were in town—my town—which of my brothers had they spotted? I desperately needed to escape, but how?
