Maya's POV
Dr. Evans studied my face with a thoughtful expression, clearly searching for the right words.
"Uncle, please just tell me what's going on," I pleaded, gripping the edge of my chair.
Beside me, Chloe fidgeted like she was the patient, nearly chewing her fingernails off in anticipation.
"Maya, this anxiety isn't beneficial for you or your baby," Dr. Evans said with a gentle smile.
"I promise I'll be the calmest person on earth once I'm actually pregnant, but until then, this waiting is killing me," I replied, leaning forward.
"And how will you manage during the eight-plus months of pregnancy?" he asked, eyes twinkling.
"We'll cross that bridge when—" I stopped mid-sentence as his words registered. "Wait, eight-plus months?"
Chloe jumped in her seat. "Eight months! Dr. Evans said eight months!" She looked like she'd just discovered gravity.
"Chl, relax. He misspoke. Everyone knows it's nine months," I said, rolling my eyes.
