Thompson's POV
I hovered over Lana's contact on my phone, ready to cancel our bar plans, but Damian's situation changed my mind. It was time to stop wallowing in self-pity—my friend would need support when he returned from wherever he'd disappeared to. Besides, meeting new people might do me good.
After showering and dressing in my favorite dark jeans and button-down, I drove to Damon's house to pick up Lana. We'd arranged for her to crash at my place again tonight. I genuinely enjoyed her company—she was witty, entertaining, and refreshingly straightforward. At work, we'd developed an impressive rhythm together. I pressed the doorbell and waited, adjusting my watch.
"Well, look who decided to show up," Damon said as he opened the door, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. After letting me in, he crossed his arms. "Let's cut to the chase, Owen. What exactly is going on between you and my sister?"
