My trip to Boston to meet with Sasha had been nothing short of disappointing. She had failed spectacularly at the one simple task I assigned her: reclaiming Damon and bringing him back where he belonged. I was beginning to think her marriage to my son had been solely due to the influence his mother and I still wielded over him at that time. Now, it was painfully obvious he couldn't even tolerate her presence.
The situation worsened when she bungled the divorce document forgery I'd instructed her to handle. Damon immediately spotted the fake signatures. Had she possessed even an ounce of creativity, she could have plied him with alcohol before having him sign—a basic tactic that somehow eluded her limited intellect.
Adding insult to injury, my son retained Dr. Fortress as his attorney. That man had been a constant irritation in my business dealings—the one lawyer I couldn't bend to my will with money or influence. Damon knew exactly what he was doing by hiring him.
