Damon's POV
Staring at my calendar, I noted that just one week remained before we'd receive Maya's DNA test results. The anticipation was eating at me. I sincerely hoped Cole's suspicions would be validated—Maya deserved better than that woman as her mother.
"Inspector, mind if I come in?" Looking up, I spotted Hector at my doorway. He was the officer helping me investigate the circumstances surrounding Cole's mother's death.
"Hector! What a pleasant surprise." I stood to welcome him. We had a long history, having worked together when he first joined the force. "Wasn't expecting you today."
"There's a reason for my unannounced visit. I thought delivering my findings in person would be best." Hector settled into the chair across from my desk.
"Must be significant if it brought you all the way here," I remarked, noting his serious expression.
"Indeed. What started as your private inquiry might transform into an official police matter." That caught me off guard.
