Damon's POV
I couldn't help but notice how quickly Maya was charming each member of my family. My mother was completely captivated by her, and even my father was looking at her differently now. Despite my initial anger, I had to admit having my family's support was far better than continuing our estrangement. I'd made it crystal clear that I wouldn't tolerate any more interference or disrespect toward Maya, and they seemed to have gotten the message.
"I've been thinking about everything we discussed yesterday," I announced, drawing everyone's attention. Beside me, Maya's lips curved into an encouraging smile. "I'm putting our disagreements behind us and breaking down that wall between us, Dad. You now know that Maya is my reason for living, and I won't let anyone hurt her or try to separate us. I hope you understand that she is my happiness, the woman I love, and that you'll respect my choices."
"Does this mean we're forgiven?" My mother's eyes shone with hope.
