The situation had escalated beyond my tolerance. My sister was trapped in this madness, and I needed to intervene somehow. Irritation coursed through my veins as I raised my voice, desperate to shatter their delusion about this forced marriage.
"Are you both blind to what's happening here?" I challenged the moment that insufferable Wesley departed. "He's going to make Lana miserable. Do you honestly believe he'll abandon his playboy lifestyle? He treats women like disposable objects. Do you have any idea how many hearts he's broken? How many tears have been shed because of him? Is that what you want for your daughter?"
"Control yourself, Damon. This isn't some common precinct where you can behave like a brute," my father matched my volume. "I've made it perfectly clear that your sister's marriage arrangements aren't your concern. Your own marriage, however, is. It's time you returned to Crestwood and resumed your responsibilities as a husband."
