Adrian's POV
The pregnancy had made Stella's emotions particularly volatile these past few days. Between Penelope's attempt on her life and that absurd misunderstanding where she thought I had feelings for Penelope—utterly ridiculous notion—she'd been through an emotional whirlwind. It had been a somber night followed by a draining day until she finally found some peace.
I decided a beach walk would do her good, hoping the gentle waves and fresh air might help her relax. It worked beautifully—until we returned home to find those three unwelcome visitors lounging in our living room like they owned the place. Her biological father, his wife, and her stepsister sat there, affecting the air of distinguished guests when they were nothing but intrusive strangers. I felt Stella tense beneath my arm, her entire body going rigid with hatred.
