Damon's POV
Insomnia had taken hold of me. After a sleepless night, I decided to contact Aurora for assistance—he was exactly the person I needed now. Maya was still fast asleep when I departed, so I left her a note explaining I had to return to the police station. The lie weighed on me, but I couldn't bear to burden her with this problem or give her any reason to contemplate leaving.
"Aurora, I appreciate you meeting me on such short notice," I said as I spotted him at the entrance to the station.
"What are friends for?" He gave my shoulder a reassuring pat. "We'll figure this out together."
We sequestered ourselves in my office where I detailed everything that had transpired and presented him with the documents.
"I swear on everything, Aurora, these signatures aren't mine," I concluded firmly.
