Chapter 9 - The Start Of The Lies That Decide Fate

The guard took them inside the cabin. As the slaves walked inside, they felt that they were being watched, they looked up to see 3 or 4 more guards watching them. They followed the guards into a room, which was pretty neat for a slave to live in.

The guard divided them into 2 groups.

"You 5 will be staying in this room."

The guard said as he ordered them to stay in a room on the ground floor.

The 1st group consisted of Hitleck, Kiya, The dead slave's friend, the delusional old man and one more. The group was pretty interesting, to say the least.

The guard repeated the same procedure with the 2nd group, this time giving them a room on the floor above.

This group consisted of Genzo, Frederick and 3 others.

Genzo and Frederick nodded goodbye at Kiya and Hitleck before following the guard to the upper section of the cabin. The guard showed them to their room.

The door was locked by the guard from the outside before they went to the upper floor.

A few minutes, The delusional slave who was speaking gibberish all along the way was searching for something in the room. Everything was in shambles, the others were annoyed and some tried to stop him, including Kiya.

"Hey stop, what are you even trying to do." He asked him while standing up.

"..." The man was still saying unknown words, probably something originating from his beliefs.

He searched the dirty cupboards, the tables and chairs, at last he searched the bathroom. He almost fell down onto the toilet but quickly regained balance and resumed his search. He was huffing and puffing.

"Hey what are you even searching?" Kiya questioned.

"..." still no response other than gibberish.

"If you tell me, I can help you."

"Hey just leave it, he is not gonna stop." Hitleck said.

"Yeah, I agree." The unknown slave said.

Kiya, accepting defeat sat down on the chair.

"So, what's your name?" Kiya asked the unknown slave.

"Me? My name is Thomas."

"Ok, You?" Kiya asked the dead slave's friend.

"..." The man was still traumatised from witnessing his friend's death.

He was sitting at the corner, back to the wall, crying while hugging his knees. He was his only friend, from the time he entered this prison. He cried quietly, not disturbing anything, by witnessing his friend's death, he realised how small he really is, in this world. He realised the mass he carried.

Kiya, trying to pull him out of misery went towards the man.

"Hey, don't be sad. He is in a better place now."

"..."

"Besides, what happened had already happened, there's no changing i-"

The man jumped at Kiya, both of them falling to the floor.

"DO YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW THAT? DO YOU THINK THAT I CAN CHANGE ANYTHING?" The man screamed at Kiya and cut him off.

Suddenly, Hitleck and Thomas came running to help. They tried to pull the man back. He took his hands off of Kiya, then stood up.

'Shit, why isn't this working. She told me that it would work.' Kiya, thought referring to his lover.

"Hey, I'm just trying to lighten the mood." Kiya said.

"….. Cameron."

"What?"

"Cameron…is my name."

"Ok Cameron, I know that he was your friend, that's why we need to find who the culprit is." Kiya said, sitting down with him.

"Tell me a bit about him." Kiya said.

"... His name was Unith, I don't know his last name but we were close friends. He was the first one who befriended me when I came to this….. HELL….. 2 years ago. He was the only one who would give me…. Hope…. Not that I expected him to save me, but... I believed in him. He stood up for me. He was always by my side, he was always there. Also, I'm sorry for jumping at you." Cameron said with a small smile on his face remembering his moments with Unith, his face then saddened, tears dropping down his face.

"Unith seems like a cool guy. I wish I was there to meet him." Kiya said while patting Cameron's back trying to calm him down.

Suddenly Hitleck yelled while looking at the bathroom followed by Thomas's yell.

"HEY, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?" Hitleck screamed.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Thomas also followed.

They both looked at the delusional man, holding a knife. Kiya stood up.

"Woh woh woh, we don't have to go this way." Kiya said.

"This world is going to get destroyed.....I am going to die….." The man said gibberish as always.

He then slowly turned the knife to his own neck, seemingly trying to end his own life. Seeing this, Kiya jumped.

The man swiftly stabbed his own neck, blood came pouring out. Kiya fell down to then stand up, he watched, as he knew that he could do nothing, still, he watched.

"Shit." Hitleck said.

"What the hell?" Thomas said.

Kiya just stood there. Cameron, unable to watch another death, curled up on the corner. There was nothing they could do, but watch.

They watched on as the man drew his final breath, surrounded by a puddle of blood. The blood coming from the man's body covered the whole room. The blood outside was bad enough.

"Hey, what do we do?" Thomas asked.

"What could we even do?" Hitleck said. "The door is locked from the outside and the guards told us to not make a sound or that we will get killed."

"I guess we wait."

"Yes, we wait, that is the only choice we have now."

Kiya was still standing there, Hitleck looked at Kiya's face for a moment. For a moment, Hit saw a smile on Kiya's face before he hid it away."

"Hey, was that a smile?" Hitleck asked.

Suddenly, Kiya snapped out of it."

"What.. a smile? No, why would I smile in this situation?"

"Yes, why would you."

"Hey, calm down." Thomas said "You probably saw something else."

"No, I saw. him. smile."

"No, Why would I even be happy at this moment?"

"That's my question."

"Are you saying that I LIKE this?"

"I never said that you liked it."

"Well, I don't."

"But, now that you say it, I'm starting to believe that you actually do."

The tension grew, both of their faces started getting serious.

"Are you trying to pin me for a crime that YOU committed?" Kiya asked

"What are you talking about?"

"With the way you are talking, I think you killed Cameron's friend Unith."

"Hey, I didn't kill Unith."

"Then why are you saying that I smiled? Are you trying to pin the murder on me by making me look like a psychopath?"

Cameron's head rose after hearing the altercation between Kiya and Hitleck. Kiya had gained Cameron's trust compared to Hitleck and Thomas. From now on, he would support Kiya.

"I don't think Cameron did it and I was at the back of the group."

"That doesn't mean that I killed him."

"Hey, everyone, calm down for a moment." Thomas said signalling everyone to calm down.

At that moment, Cameron had also stood up.

Now, the tension was at an all-time high.

But no one noticed that the lies were already planted.
