Chapter 55 - Heart Racing

"Didn't I say? Your stomach is sensitive; you shouldn't drink alcohol. This cocktail looks beautiful, but it's not low in alcohol content," Erik said, his handsome brows furrowed together.

"Erik, who are you to me? What gives you the right to control me?" They weren't in a relationship that allowed them to manage each other.

Erik: "..."

Why was this little fox so stubborn? Her words could truly kill a man.

"Then who do I need to become to have that right? Whatever role it is, I can become it." Erik refused to back down.

Just then, Sara arrived. Seeing the packed crowd at Nightfall, she got especially excited. Back in the day, Nelson had hurt Janelle right in front of these people. Of course, it was only fitting he apologize publicly here too.

"Why isn't Nelson here yet? Could he be too scared to show?" Sara sat down next to Janelle.

"Don't know."

Janelle actually didn't care about Nelson anymore. Five years ago, she was young and naive. Nelson, the favored son of heaven, acted so humble in front of her. She thought he genuinely liked her, so she agreed to be with him. She never imagined Nelson's affection could be so shallow. When everyone was vilifying her and her mother, Nelson didn't help; he joined in kicking them down. And now, after her return, he kept pushing her boundaries. If it weren't for that, she wouldn't have bothered with him at all.

Nightfall was packed to the rafters tonight. On stage, the resident singer was performing. Janelle watched him. A very good-looking young man, probably only eighteen or nineteen. Dressed in a white shirt, he sat on a barstool, playing guitar and singing. His voice was distinctive.

Seeing her watching the young man in white, Sara nudged her with an elbow. "What? You like the guy in white on stage? Want me to get his contact info for you?" Janelle was twenty; she really should experience a proper romance.

Janelle wanted to drink, but Erik simply wouldn't allow it. This man... why was he so annoying!

"Erik, let go," Janelle said impatiently.

Seeing how much she craved it, Erik finally released her hand. "Just a little. Don't drink too much." In the end, Erik abandoned his principles and indulged her.

Janelle took a sip. Indeed, alcohol was a good thing. After just a couple of sips, her mood lifted.

On stage, the young man in white reached an emotional part of the song. The rich kids below got excited.

At the entrance of Nightfall, Bruce Aleen, in a black leather jacket, entered surrounded by his entourage. He'd been particularly irritable these past two days. Ever since that woman tricked him that night, the image of her flipping him off was seared into his mind. Unshakeable.

"Bruce, you've been off lately. What's wrong?" a buddy beside him couldn't help asking.

"Shut up. Don't talk. I'm pissed." Bruce Aleen was genuinely annoyed. Humiliated by a woman like that? Did he have no pride? He hadn't even wanted to come out tonight, but his friends insisted there was a 'good show' at Nightfall and dragged him out.

"Bruce, see that? Isn't the kid on stage hot?" Bruce Aleen shot him a look. He didn't discriminate against his sexual orientation, but could he not assume Bruce was the same?

"Bruce! That woman from the other night!" The buddy spotted Janelle first. Wasn't this the one who'd been messing with Bruce's head?

Bruce Aleen looked where he pointed and indeed saw the girl he'd street raced with that night. Her long hair cascaded down her back. She wore a simple black tank top. At that moment, she was tilting her head back to drink, the liquid tracing a path down her throat. The sight was unbearably sexy.

Bruce Aleen's heart raced. He couldn't help pressing a hand over his chest.

Damn it!

Just watching her, he was captivated.

Bruce Aleen found himself walking towards Janelle, stopping beside her.

Sara noticed Bruce Aleen first.

Feeling an intense gaze, Janelle turned and saw him. The next second, however, she shifted her attention away, completely ignoring him.

"Hey beautiful, what's your name? Can I get your WeChat?" Bruce Aleen knew hitting on someone at Nightfall like this wasn't ideal, but he couldn't help himself.

"..."

Janelle turned to him again. She remembered the man – she'd just raced him on a whim that night when she was feeling down. She hadn't expected him to remember her.

A smile touched Sara's lips. This was right! Their Janelle, wherever she went, was the object of men's pursuit. Lillie could never compete.

"Sorry, I don't use WeChat," Janelle refused directly. For people she wasn't interested in, she never wasted extra time. Whoever this man was, she didn't care.

Bruce Aleen had never been rejected before. His buddies behind him saw his expression darken and stayed quiet. Bruce had a fiery temper. This girl dared to reject him publicly in front of so many people? She was probably...

But the usually explosive Bruce Aleen said nothing. He just found a seat and sat down.

"Little fox, am I not enough for you?" Erik asked lazily.

"..."

What did that mean? What had she done?

"Remember, you are mine." Erik hooked an arm around her neck, pulling her close to him, and planted a kiss on her lips.

"..."

Janelle was utterly speechless. There were so many people here! What was he doing, acting crazy?

"Don't look at other men." Whether it was the young man in white on stage or the guy in black just now. "You can only look at me, understand?" His possessiveness was growing stronger, almost burning him up.

"Erik, are you okay?" The relationship between them wasn't the kind where they could constrain each other!

"Bruce, you okay?" his buddy asked worriedly. The calmer Bruce seemed, the scarier it was.

"I'm fine. Do you know who she is?" He was genuinely intrigued by a woman who could beat him.

The buddy only had eyes for racing; how would he know the girl's background? "Go find out."

Not inquiring yielded nothing, but asking around was a shock. "Bruce, do you know who she is? She's the notorious eldest daughter of the Rovellas!"

"Who?"

Notorious? Was there some misunderstanding?

"I just found out. She's the Rovellas heiress. The one Nelson is supposed to apologize to later." A girl who could force the heir of the Hills to apologize publicly? She was no simple character.

The buddy recounted the information he'd gathered about Janelle. Bruce Aleen listened, his frown deepening with every word.
