Chapter 16 - First lesson

The days passed by in a breeze. I was now in perfect shape so Azrael thought today was a good time to start our lessons.

We went to a big empty room to practice. I was wearing black pants, white shirts and boots. I put my hair up in a high pony tail, securing it with s black ribbon.

My silver white hair glittered under the lighting while my golden orbs shone with determination.

"I'm ready" i said.

"Okay, let's start with short distances first. I've seen how your power works. You can create portals to where ever you want" he told me. "So, first thing you will learn is how to create portals to any part of this room"

"Oh okay" I gave him two thumbs up. "Sounds pretty simple to me" added with way more confidence for a novice.

"Don't get too confident, you may end up more disappointed if you don't get it after a while" he cautioned.

"I'm a fast learner"

"This is not like normal magic, it requires high amount of focus and manna" he added firmly.

"Oh fine fine," I teased but admitted defeat, raising my hands up in surrender, "you win"

"I'm serious Arianna, stop joking" he ran a hand through his dark locks, revealing a little expression. He looked irritated and resigned.

'yeah I have that effect on people's

I pursed my lips, my gaze downcast. A shadow formed over my cheeks from light falling onto my lashes. I kept my lips shut, no words leave my mouth.

I heard him sigh before he stalked towards me, he stopped right in front of me.

His shoes were in my line of sight but I did not raise my head.

"Look at me Arianna" his deep voice came from above but I remained unmoving, my head bowed reluctant to look at him.

He brought his right index finger to my chin and raised my head up but my eyes refused to meet his.

"Look at me Arianna" he repeated, this time I do. The silent command and authority in his voice made me comply. "It's not that I don't trust that you could do it, I have that much faith in you, but I justneed you to understand that from he on it does not get any easier. There are lot of dangerous people out there that hide behind a deceiving facade and that you should always be careful when judging them. I don't want you getting hurt because you underestimated them or overestimated yourself" he added softly but with a firmness but the hint of emotion in his tone could be detected freezing me in place. "You have to think about yourself first, do you understand?"

I nodded my head absentmindedly. I was tongue-tied. I mean what do you even say to that.

Our gazed were still locked, his finger was still on my chin and his body so close to mine I could feel the heat radiating off of him.

We stay like that for what seemed like forever with his eyes briefly flickering to my lips. Unconsciously I began to bite them. Immediately I noticed how his red eyes darkened.

"Are we not going to continue the lesson?" I asked flustered. I felt like there were a thousand butterflies in my stomach that were being eaten by fire breathing dragons.

'I'm going to throw up'

"Let's continue" he sucked a deep breath in, his hand caresses my cheeks, fingers tracing my skin; his eyes looking over my face as though he was trying to imprint every angle, every like and every curve to memory.

With one final brush, his hand fell to his side and he took a step back. His calm mask back to his face.

After that we went back to the lessons as though nothing happened.

The day went on with Azrael teaching me how to access my power which I learned on the fifth try. He made me practice moving short distances like going from one part of the room to the next.

I was creating portals from where I am to where I want to be.

At first it was hard controlling it. I ended up creating portals in the ceiling and high up the walls and sometimes, right in front of me.

I got frustrated but Azrael was a very patient teacher, encouraging me at every step of the way until I managed to get it right.

"Well done!"he smiled proudly and patted me on the head.

His smile was dazzling making his already handsome face even more handsome.

I could feel my heart beating rapidly in my chest. I was exhausted but couldn't help but return a wide smile of my own.
