Chapter 64 - Teeth in the Dark

(Lucien's POV)

Father's lies smelled worse than a corpse left to rot in the open.

The council might have bowed when he raised his voice and swallowed his claim that Aisla's appearance was his command, but I had seen his hand before. I had seen him try to cut her throat in the shadows when he thought no one was watching and call it a test when he got caught. I had smelled the fear in him when the prophecy first bared its teeth.

So when Aisla's power rolled across the battlefield and he returned to the courtyard wearing that smug smile, I knew it was all an act.

It wasn't his plan. It never was. He is simply taking advantage of the pack's ignorance.

 

But I would not let him twist her into his weapon. She won't be his play thing.
