Keira couldn't believe the words she was hearing from her father right now, she had thought she had all this handled, she thought she was done with this goddamn marriage contract.
She got a call from her father this morning asking her to join him for dinner at the mansion, she was thinking he wanted to announce that the marriage contract was void, or at least apologize for setting her up in the first place but to her surprise, he had called her in to announce the date of her wedding!!
"Dad, I don't understand, didn't you talk to Attorney Sy?" Keira asked, her face now turning pale as she went through the new modified contract that she was meant to sign.
"I did, Liam said he had a great time with you last night and he couldn't wait any longer, he suggested that the marriage date be moved up" The old man spoke with a smile on his face while he cut his steak.
Keira could feel her palms sweaty, she had no idea what was going on. She could remember Attorney Sy's words loud and clear and the man had clearly stated that he would cancel the marriage, so what was she hearing about having a good time?
"Dad I think you must have heard him wrong, this….this can't be happening….i can't…" she knew she was stuttering, but she just couldn't find the right words to say to her father right now and as if she wasn't under much pressure already, she could feel a pair of eyes shooting daggers at her across the table.
"That's enough Kei, this isn't up for debate" Her father spoke, shutting her off.
Keira didn't know wether to laugh or cry seeing how her father was selling her off for some stupid merger. This was her life and he was treating it like some contract, but of course she should understand how this works. Marriages are more of alliance in the business world, they see it as a means to make more money or build connections.
"Dad, if Keira doesn't want to marry Mr Sy then I see no reason why we should force her? It's her life you know, she's not a little girl" a feminine voice from across the table chirped in.
Keira swallowed the lump in her throat when she noticed how the tension in the atmosphere shifted drastically. If only Elena was saying this in an attempt to defend her, but she knew the only reason Elena chirped in was because she had a huge crush on Liam Sy. Don't even know what she sees in him.
Keira looked at her father, trying to gouge his reaction, though it was not public knowledge, Robert was not Elena's biological father, Keira's mum had an affair with some musician while he was on tour. It was suppose to be a one night stand but then she found out she was pregnant. If the news had gotten out, it would have destroyed the Sinclair reputation so Robert decided to keep it a secret and claimed the child for his. But that didn't mean that he treated her like his, he didn't look at her with love or care, he looked at her with anger, like she was the cause of all his problems.
Perhaps maybe that was why Elena was always seeking attention from other people, because she wasn't getting any at home.
"Elena, this doesn't concern you" Robert spoke, dismissing the poor girl.
Keira could feel the awkward silence and so she chirped in again trying to plead her case.
"Father this isn't right, I don't love him, do you really want me to marry a man that I do not love?" Keira couldn't believe she was playing the pity card right now, but she knew she had to try everything to get out of this.
"With time you'll get to know him and love him, Liam is a good man, he takes after his father. Better still, you can ask him yourself, tomorrow. " Robert added. "He will be stopping by the house to pick you up for lunch"
"I have work tomorrow " Keira added with her fist clenched at her sides, she had never felt so powerless her entire life.
"I already called your assistant, I asked her to adjust your schedule, push all your meetings to tomorrow"
Keira didn't know how many times she had cursed her assistant in her head.
Keira didn't say another word, the rest of the dinner was quiet, with Elena still upset about not being involved in the conversation and Robert standing adamant on his decision. Keira knew there was nothing more she could tell her father to convince him to change his mind.
But she did feel bad because she had talked to Xander earlier, she had explained everything to him, including how she had handled everything. She was even suppose to meet him for dinner at his place tomorrow But now what was she suppose to tell him??
For what is worth, Keira knew one thing for sure, there was no way she was going to be the wife of Liam Sy. This was her life and she vowed to herself that she wasn't going to let her father control it.
