The dim glow of the bedside lamp cast static shadows against the wall, creating a haunting atmosphere for Juno. She sat on the cold leather sofa, hugging her knees as she watched Valerie's heart monitor blink rhythmically. That constant beep was the only thing keeping Juno sane in the eye of the storm that had just erupted.
Suddenly, the door swung open. Juno winced, her hand reflexively reaching for her jacket pocket searching for anything that could serve as a weapon, before she realized who it was.
Dr. Miller stepped in, his face far more tense than before. Behind him, two well-built guards, Leo's trusted men, followed with hurried strides. They carried no visible weapons, but their posture radiated total alertness.
"Juno," Dr. Miller called in a low, urgent tone. "We have to move. Now."
Juno knit her brows, standing up from the sofa with the lingering weakness in her legs. "Move? Where? Leo told me to stay here until he returns."
