"Go back? But you know I can't," Thor said, surprised by Fandral's invitation. "After all, my father died because of me, and my mother doesn't want me to return."
Thor was taken aback. He knew that neither Loki, the current king of Asgard, nor his mother wished for his return. If Fandral brought him back under these circumstances, it could be seen as betrayal.
So although Thor wanted to go home, he wouldn't let them bring him back at the cost of rebellion.
"Thor, your father is still alive," Sif said, frowning. She didn't understand why Thor thought Odin was dead—clearly a misunderstanding.
"But… that's what Loki told me." Thor's eyes widened in shock. Sif's words completely contradicted what Loki had said.
"It was Loki. He stole the throne while Odin was in the Odinsleep. He's the one who doesn't want you to return to Asgard," Sif said sharply.
"That Frost Giant who interrupted your coronation—he was let in by Loki. Heimdall told me Loki's been making frequent trips to Jotunheim, hiding them from his sight."
At the mention of Loki, the four Asgardians understood everything. This was all Loki's plan. On one hand, he spread blame for Asgard's troubles on Thor and used his authority to exile him. On the other hand, he descended to Earth and fed Thor lies—telling him Odin was dead. Because of that, even Frigga hated Thor, and Thor himself had no intention of returning.
If not for them, Thor might never have known the truth. He would have remained banished on Earth forever.
"Wait—you're saying Loki let that Frost Giant into Asgard?" Thor was stunned by Sif's words. Because if Loki allowed Frost Giants in…
"You mean… Thor's brother Loki has connections with the Frost Giants? Then the Frost Giants who attacked us recently—were they sent by Loki?" Jane interjected. She didn't know the full family drama, but between what Sif said and what they'd all been through recently, the theory made sense.
"No. If Loki sent them to attack me, why would he warn me before?" Thor still refused to believe Loki would try to harm him.
"What Frost Giants?" Sif asked quickly, picking up on Jane's comment.
Meanwhile, in Asgard, Loki's plans were unraveling. The Frost Giant strike had failed again. Despite everything going according to plan, Thor remained a threat.
But Laufey's Frost Giants had failed. Loki still didn't know how powerful the Earth Guardian really was. No matter—he still had his ace: the Destroyer, Asgard's most powerful weapon.
Loki took the Eternal Spear and went to Odin's vault. With Odin in the Odinsleep, only the one holding the spear could control the Destroyer.
"Make sure my brother never returns. Destroy everything," Loki commanded, staring coldly at the massive armor. Then he turned to the Frost Box.
"There's still someone else I need to deal with."
After hiding both the Destroyer and the Frost Box, Loki made his way to the Bifrost.
Heimdall opened his eyes as Loki approached.
"Loki! How did you let Frost Giants into Asgard and Midgard?!"
Heimdall had just seen Thor among Frost Giant corpses and now needed answers.
Loki hadn't only brought Frost Giants to Asgard—he helped them reach Earth too.
"Heimdall, do you think the Bifrost is the only way between realms?" Loki said smugly. "There are many hidden passages in the universe—even you can't see them all."
"But I no longer need them. I am now King of Asgard. And you—because of your treasonous aid to Sif and the others—are hereby stripped of your station. You are no longer a citizen of Asgard. You are banished!"
"So what I'm doing now… wouldn't be considered betrayal," Heimdall said, raising his sword. He intended to strike down Loki and stop Thor's exile. He no longer saw Loki as worthy of the throne or his loyalty.
But before he could act, the Frost Box appeared in Loki's hand—Jotunheim's sacred relic.
As it activated, Loki's skin turned blue, markings of a Frost Giant emerging across his face. He opened the box toward Heimdall.
True to its legend, the Frost Box instantly froze Heimdall, who had no time to react.
With Heimdall neutralized, Loki summoned the Destroyer. Using the Eternal Spear, he activated the Bifrost and sent the Destroyer to Earth.
"Sir, it's happening again! The same energy is building up!" a voice said urgently in Coulson's earpiece.
Coulson looked up and saw the clouds from earlier swirling again, forming a vortex.
Then the vortex funneled downward like a tornado.
"Are more people coming?" Daisy asked Sif.
"Maybe. Or maybe not." Sif looked unsure. She didn't know who had activated the Bifrost this time. If it was Heimdall, that was fine. But if it was Loki…
Soon, the tip of the vortex touched down. Even from far away, Coulson and the others could feel the impact like a thunderous boom.
This time, the Bifrost was clearly different—much louder and more intense than when Sif and the warriors arrived. That made sense. The Destroyer's power far exceeded the four warriors', and its arrival required more energy.
"It looks like some kind of robot," Clark said, using his X-ray vision to peer through the fog and catch a glimpse of what was emerging.
"The Destroyer!" Thor exclaimed immediately. He knew that description all too well.
"It really is Loki…" Thor's voice was tinged with pain. No matter how much he didn't want to believe it—he couldn't deny it anymore.
As Odin's enchanted armor and the mightiest weapon in Asgard, the Destroyer was powered by the Eternal Spear—wielded only by the ruler of Asgard.
"Jane, you need to leave. Now," Thor said urgently.
"What about you?"
"I have to stay. It's after me. If you're near me, you won't be able to escape. We can't defeat the Destroyer."
Thor knew exactly how dangerous it was. He didn't want anyone else getting hurt.
"Well, that's not a sure thing. We won't know unless we fight," Clark said calmly.
He knew that despite its reputation, the Destroyer was far from invincible—especially without Odin's control. In fact, in the original story, even a newly restored Thor had a hard time defeating it.
