Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 Instant Kill

"Not good. We haven't stopped moving since last night—we're afraid if we stop, the Frost Giants will catch up to us."

Jane wasn't about to underestimate Agent Coulson, the S.H.I.E.L.D. director who had taken their equipment and data the night before.

"By the way, who are you? I still don't know what to call you." Coulson said, reaching his right hand out to Thor.

Thor looked at the outstretched hand and instinctively extended his own for a handshake.

"My name is—"

"His name is Donald Blake," Jane quickly interrupted before Thor could finish.

"Donald Blake?"

Hearing this, Coulson instantly realized that Jane probably didn't want him to know Thor's true identity. Interesting. What kind of identity would be so unique it needed to be kept secret from a national-level organization like S.H.I.E.L.D.?

"Uh, he's a medical doctor. And a physicist. A very skilled physicist."

"All right. Earlier, you mentioned Frost Giants—can you describe them for me? Our instruments picked up traces of extreme cold near Antigor Point. Was that you? Or caused by the Frost Giants?"

"I need you to be specific. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s job is to protect Earth from threats like that."

Because of Clark's presence, Coulson couldn't take any aggressive actions toward Thor. So, he could only try to gather information through questioning.

But just then, Clark suddenly sensed that something was falling from the sky.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three loud thuds rang out, and three large creatures landed not far from Clark and the others.

They were humanoid in shape, but significantly taller than ordinary humans—about three meters on average. In addition to their size, they had distinct features: intricate markings across their skin and a cold, bluish hue.

"Yeah, they look just like that. Can you handle them?" Jane asked Coulson, pointing at the figures.

When the lead Frost Giant saw Thor, a cruel smile crept onto his face.

"Thor, you can't escape."

As he spoke, more and more Frost Giants began falling from the sky, surrounding Clark and the others. Even in broad daylight, Jane and the rest felt a bone-chilling cold creep over them.

This wasn't a psychological illusion—it was physically freezing.

Clark looked around. After a dozen or so Frost Giants had appeared, he realized they were beginning to surround the group.

"Clark, can you handle this?" Coulson asked nervously, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he eyed the Frost Giants and their icy weapons. He wasn't sure if his handgun would do anything at all.

"Leave it to me."

As the Frost Giants rushed toward them, Clark suddenly disappeared in a blur, only to reappear directly in front of the lead Frost Giant. Behind him, a cape fluttered into view.

"Superman!"

Even if she didn't visit New York often, Jane couldn't possibly fail to recognize the most famous superhero alive—more popular than Iron Man himself—when he appeared.

Clark didn't give the Frost Giant a chance to react. He grabbed the creature's head with one hand, and with a mighty force, slammed it into another Giant's chest. Then, with a twist of his hand, crushed the skull like an eggshell.

Another nearby Frost Giant, realizing the danger, struck with a blade of pure ice aimed at Clark.

Clark responded with a palm strike, his hand colliding directly with the icy blade.

Despite its sharp appearance, the ice blade was nothing against Clark's overwhelming strength. His strike broke straight through it, severing the Frost Giant's arm.

Before the creature could react, Clark's next strike sliced its entire body into pieces.

Though it sounded like a long process, everything happened in just about one second. Before Jane and Daisy could even react, all three Frost Giants in that direction had been taken out by Clark.

"Clark… h-he's actually Superman?!!"

Jane and Daisy were stunned. They had always assumed Clark was just a regular guy. Never in their wildest dreams did they think he was the Superman.

Coulson didn't respond to their shock. He just gave them a small smile.

"Looks like we'll be okay today," Coulson said as he raised his gun and began firing at another Frost Giant.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Six shots—emptying the magazine. Coulson quickly realized that although he could aim well, the .22 caliber rounds had no effect on the Frost Giants.

"They're immune to handguns!"

He muttered to himself, "Guess we can consider that another stat in the Frost Giant data sheet." He looked up at the sky, trying to understand how these creatures had appeared above them.

After Clark eliminated the first three Giants, he immediately charged at the remaining ten, neutralizing them before they could even get close to Jane or the others.

"Clark, what just happened?" Erik asked as Clark returned, still processing everything he had seen.

"What do you think happened? I can't exactly go around telling everyone I'm Superman, can I?"

"Anyway, we should leave. I don't know how they knew you were here, but one thing's clear—S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base will be safer."

Clark then looked up at the sky. He had seen something earlier: the Frost Giants hadn't simply fallen from above.

Clark had caught it—before the Giants appeared, a transparent rift had opened in the sky, and they came through it. The rift was nearly invisible and extremely fast, giving the illusion that the Giants had just dropped from the sky.

"What about our car?"

Jane was relieved to be under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s protection now, but she looked worriedly at her modified vehicle.

The car had been custom-built and was packed with field research equipment.

"Leave it here. I'm sure they can help recover it."

Clark looked toward Coulson as he spoke. Coulson gave him a nod, indicating that he would take care of it.

"Oh, by the way—they've already sent your equipment back to you."

"Really?"

Jane perked up immediately. Ever since Thor's explanations the night before, her vision of the cosmos had completely changed.

"Absolutely, Dr. Foster. We've returned everything to your lab."

After saying that, Coulson turned to Thor.

"Now then—my apologies. I think it's time we had an honest conversation, Mr. Blake."
