Jane then opened the car door. As soon as the engine started, she saw Daisy and Erik getting into the car.
"You?!"
"Don't talk—just drive. Thor is still waiting for us to save him."
Daisy said this as she fastened her seatbelt.
"Alright, you got it."
With that, Jane released the clutch, stepped on the gas, and drove in the direction Thor had run off.
Because they were near the outskirts of Antigel Point, Thor had not run into town while fleeing the Frost Giants. Instead, he had headed toward the wilderness.
"Thor, you can't run forever."
Even without his divine powers, Thor still had decent physical strength and stamina. So he relied on his agility to dodge the Frost Giants' attacks while thinking of a way to break out of this desperate situation.
Yes, it was a dead end. Thor didn't think there was anything on Midgard capable of fighting Frost Giants. His only motivation to keep running was the belief that a warrior shouldn't wait to be slaughtered. If he had to die, he wanted to die in battle.
But after comparing their size, Thor couldn't help but think of his hammer. Right now, he didn't even have a weapon—how could he fight back?
Just then, Thor heard the sound of a car behind him and immediately felt a sense of danger. He jumped to the side, and a modified small truck came to a screeching halt next to him.
"Quick, get in!"
Thor looked back and saw that the three Frost Giants chasing him had been knocked over by the car, lying sprawled on the side of the road. He quickly opened the door and climbed in.
"ROAR!"
The three Frost Giants got up and chased the car for a short distance but, seeing it pull farther and farther away, could only roar in frustration.
"Did you aim at me when you hit them? You almost hit me too."
Now that he had escaped, Thor joked with Jane.
"I didn't not hit you. Are you okay? Besides, I just saved your life."
Jane, relieved that they were out of danger, relaxed a little as she drove.
"Thor, were those things really Frost Giants?"
Erik turned around and, after confirming that the giants weren't following, finally breathed a sigh of relief. For someone his age, today had been far too exciting.
But the appearance of those monsters had completely shattered his former beliefs. He was very curious—were they truly Frost Giants?
"Yes. I once broke into Jotunheim, which triggered a war between the two realms. Afterward, my father banished me to Midgard.
So I suspect Laufey discovered I had been exiled and sent those Frost Giants here to kill me. Loki visited me before this happened and even warned me, but I didn't understand what he meant."
"Jotunheim? Midgard? Thor, can you explain what all that means?"
After seeing the Frost Giants with their own eyes, the three of them finally believed Thor and accepted that he really was the God of Thunder. Now, they were filled with curiosity about the worlds described in Norse mythology.
"Alright. What your ancestors called magic, and what you call science—where I come from, they're the same thing.
That's how my father explained it to me. Your world is one of the Nine Realms of the cosmos. They are all connected by the branches of a great tree—Yggdrasil, the World Tree. You see it every day without realizing it.
Look at it through your Hubble Telescope—yes, Hubble can see it.
The nine realms are: Asgard, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Midgard (your Earth), Nidavellir, Jotunheim, Muspelheim, Svartalfheim, and Helheim."
Perhaps because they were facing enemies humans couldn't understand or handle, Daisy and the others didn't inform Clark after fleeing. And since they had driven straight into the wilderness from the start, they didn't alert S.H.I.E.L.D., who were also in the Antigel Point area.
As a result, when Clark arrived at Jane's lab with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, all he found was a wrecked facility.
"A battle definitely took place here. The enemy came from the sky!"
At that moment, a man carrying a bow had inspected several areas and came to that conclusion.
That man was clearly Hawkeye. Upon seeing the bow slung over the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent's back, Clark immediately thought of that name.
"From the sky?"
But Clark was puzzled by Hawkeye's conclusion. In his memory, Thor hadn't fought anyone on Earth early on—at least not outside of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s knowledge.
"So were they captured or did they escape?"
Clark reasoned that if people had disappeared, there were only two explanations: they were either taken or fled. After all, if they had fought back successfully, they wouldn't be missing.
And Clark noted that there was barely any visible damage. Aside from a single chair, nothing in the area was destroyed. So he concluded that no real fight had occurred here.
Either it ended immediately—or they ran the moment they saw the enemy.
"It's only been a few hours… how could so much have happened already?"
Unable to figure it out, Clark stopped overthinking. He looked around the area again and, seeing no remains of phones, assumed that Daisy and the others' phones were still intact. So he took out his own phone and called Daisy.
"Hello? Clark?"
Daisy's tired voice came through as soon as she picked up.
"Yes, it's me. What happened last night? Why aren't you at the lab? It looks like there was a fight there."
At the mention of a fight, Daisy immediately perked up.
"Clark, you won't believe what happened. I can't believe Thor was telling the truth. Last night, we…"
Daisy went on to tell Clark everything that had happened.
"Frost Giants? How could they appear on Earth?"
After hearing her story, Clark was filled with doubt. But then he remembered what the ancient being Gu Yi had told him: that Earth's future had somehow been twisted. So he figured most of the events going forward would deviate from what was supposed to happen.
That made the appearance of Frost Giants less surprising. In fact, if they didn't show up, that would've been strange.
Their presence likely meant one of two things: either a spatial rift had opened between Jotunheim and Earth—or Laufey had used some artifact to send assassins after Thor.
Either way, Thor's life was now in serious danger. Who knew if he would survive until Odin awakened and restored his power to lift Mjolnir? If either of them arrived too late, and Thor was killed… then the future would become truly unpredictable.
"Where are you now? Are the Frost Giants still chasing you?"
"I don't know where we are anymore. We haven't stopped since last night—afraid the giants might catch up. We haven't seen them for a while now."
Daisy glanced out the rear window but saw no sign of the Frost Giants.
"Alright, hold on. I'm with S.H.I.E.L.D. right now. I'll have them track your phone and come pick you up. I just had them return the equipment to your lab this morning—and then you all vanished."
After saying that, Clark handed Daisy's number to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. He figured that since they were professionals, they'd definitely have the tech to trace her location.
