The golden glow wrapped around us, steady, unyielding. Rosalie's hand lingered on Lianwei's cheek before she finally turned to me. Her eyes gods, those eyes were heavy, brimming with things unspoken for centuries.
"My child." Rosalie said, her voice low, almost trembling. "Do you know why I came?"
I couldn't answer. My throat was tight, my chest too heavy. She stepped closer, the medallion on her chest catching the faint light, and though her presence filled the courtyard, she looked… small. Fragile.
