In a forest lived a proud hare and a humble tortoise. The hare always made fun of the tortoise's slow pace. One day the tortoise challenged the hare to a race. The hare laughed, but agreed.
The race began. The hare ran ahead with lightning speed. Looking back, he saw the tortoise at the beginning of the race. "This is still a long way! Even if I take a nap, he won't make it here," thought the hare and sat down to rest under a tree. The fragrant air and peace lulled him to sleep.
Meanwhile, the tortoise kept taking slow but steady steps. He passed by the hare, but without waking the hare, he continued on his way. When the hare opened his eyes, he hurriedly looked towards the end point. There the tortoise was about to cross the finish line! The hare ran at full speed, but it was already too late. The tortoise had won the race.
