Mysticor Trading Company?
My head spun as the pieces clicked into place. Something serious had happened to Waylon Colby's business.
"Officers, there must be some mistake," Belinda said beside me. "We run a legitimate clothing business. Our taxes are always current."
I moved around the desk and lowered my voice. "This involves my family. I need to go with them. Keep the office running smoothly and don't let anyone panic."
Belinda's face creased with worry. "Understood."
I managed a reassuring smile. "Everything will work out. Trust me."
After giving brief instructions, I followed the tax officials out.
The moment Waylon Colby suddenly became cooperative, transferring my mother's shares and even adding some of his own to make me the second-largest shareholder, I knew he was orchestrating something. But Lila had been dead less than a week. Instead of mourning his daughter, this excuse for a father was already plotting against his other child.
He truly was heartless.
