Freya's POV
"I'm sorry, but my grandmother's been rushed to the hospital. I won't be able to make it tonight." I clutched the medical forms as I walked toward the ward, my voice barely above a whisper.
Mack Ben's concern was immediate. "How serious is it? I can arrange for a specialist if you need one."
"The doctors are handling it for now. They're saying it's a heart attack and want to start her on clot-busting medication."
"Which hospital are you at?"
I hesitated, my pulse quickening, but finally answered. "Provincial Central Hospital."
"Alright. Focus on what you need to do. Call me if anything changes."
"I will."
After hanging up, I made my way back to the ward.
Grandmother had just been settled into her bed and was conscious again. A team of doctors and nurses were running additional tests around her.
I pressed myself against the wall, listening as she responded clearly to their questions. The knot of fear in my chest loosened slightly—she was alert and aware.
