"You can honor their memory from anywhere. Once you're healed, we'll visit together if you'd like." Mack's voice carried a gentle reassurance as his gaze held mine. Then he added with clear intention, "I'd be honored to accompany you."
"You want to come with me?" The surprise in my voice was unmistakable, though his meaning became crystal clear immediately.
He wanted to meet my family. To be introduced as someone significant in my life.
But I hadn't given him an answer yet. About us. About anything.
The shock passed quickly, and I deflected with practiced ease. "We can discuss it once I'm recovered. You'll probably be too busy anyway."
Mack's smile told me he saw right through my evasion, but he didn't push.
The acupuncture session ran longer than expected, and by the time we finished, it was already past one o'clock.
