Freya's POV
I shot them both a withering glare. "This dinner was organized by the academy, Anya. Can't you read the invitation?"
Anya twisted her face into a mocking sneer. "Jasper asked me about you when we bumped into each other. I was just being helpful. Why are you snapping at me?"
Jasper's intense stare made my skin crawl as he spoke in that low voice I once found attractive. "I came here to see you. To reconnect with old friends. We all have so much history together."
His words dripped with implication. Everyone at this table knew about our passionate romance, how I'd nearly died caring for him during his illness. It had become campus legend, and now these vultures wanted front-row seats to whatever drama might unfold.
Before I could respond, Anya jumped in with vicious glee. "Weren't you two madly in love? Why the cold shoulder now? Freya, you were obsessed with Jasper back then. You would have died for him."
