Chapter 8 - Almanac

A week quickly passed without anything interesting happening to the disappointment of Clement.

On this night Rust's parents returned and after showering, an old habit of theirs, they came to the living room to find Rust focused reading an atlas of Atran.

" woah , wait a , hey! mom!!!!"

Rust's concentration was quickly broken by the tugging of gentle hands as Yennifer picked his body up and hugged him tightly.

"My wibble baby , you don't know how much MOMMY missed you"

Yennifer proceeded to attack him with a barrage of kisses to his face.

A rough big hand came from behind and started to gently pet Rust in the back of the head.

"Boy."

This was Rust's father, Oxneal.

"Mom, can you put me down now please "

" Nuh uh , why?, are you up to something again, I heard a magic crystal needed to be replaced but I couldn't beat out the reason why it ran out of mana in the first place."

Yennifer said as she stared into her son's eyes and smiled.

" I'm not up to anything, I just want to learn more about the world because my bloodline inheritance is incomplete."

Rust said as he evaded his mothers eyes and changed the topic.

"Honey , you see this, our son is so young but he's already lying to us."

" I see it, but just let him be we don't know anything about it so it probably doesn't matter"

The couple spoke as Yennifer put down Rust then proceeded to cut down the air in front of her with a finger and pulled out a small rectangular shaped stone.

"if you say so i guess i will but just know if it comes to bite us back in the future i wont speak to you for a 100 000 years.

anyway Rusty, guess what mommy had a friend make for you, an almanac ! so this better be the 1st and last i hear you mention your incomplete inheritance mmhkay ."

"Really! what does it contain?!" Rust asked excitedly as Yennifer handed him the almanac."

"Whatever you want to know kinda, just touch it and ask what you want to know in your mind and it will directly transmit that information to your mind."

kinda? why am i not surprised.

"May i use it now?" asked Rust.

"Not yet, your mind is not strong enough and it will take a while for you to absorb whatever information you want so it better if you used it in your alone time , right now your father has something to tell you"

Seeing Rust put down the almanac , Oxneal joined in .

"500 years boy" he said ever so seriously disregarding the flat faces that followed from the mother and son.

"500 years of what father?"

"500 years of what dumass?"

"That's how much time you have left until the queen wakes up , that's how much time you have to reach rank 7 , that's how much time til you have to enter a battle with the rest of the consorts to determine who the king will be."

right that, why do i have to even do that?

"It's the progenitors arrangement for the future of our race boy so you better take it seriously . " Oxneal answered his question before he even had the opportunity to ask it outloud.

Yennifer looked at her conflicted child and said:

" Don't be so out baby , that little girl is almost as beautiful as your mommy so you are not losing out on anything .

that not the issue here nor is it what i'm concerned about, Rust sighed as he looked at the floor.

"Marrying her highness is an honor boy and should be treated as such, i hope you don't display such sentiments toward this matter in public "

Oxneal said as he sternly stared at his son.

" I won't father i understand our highness represents to our people " Rust answered as he had gotten used to his fathers serious attitude toward the queen and nobility in general over the years.

Seeing this interaction , Yennifer said something to lighten the mood as she felt a slight tension in the air.

"Well aren't you a FUN duo, anyway honey unfortunately for you , you're gonna have to start your training and education early so starting from tomorrow your father will teach you basic combat and i will teach you mana control"

Hearing that he would be starting combat training tomorrow, Rust was initially excited until it also clocked to him that he'd have to start his education early .

Having been educated in his past life and not really liking it , Rust immediately lost most of his excitement especially knowing what education entailed for the blood clan members.

As long-lived creatures that have developed for a long number of years and valued education very highly, the education system of the blood clan was as comprehensive as it can be with the average time it took to finish a course/subject being 5 years even with the supernatural mind of blood clan members.

With an average graduation time of 2000 years of systematic education its hard for anyone to be excited to go through it much less Rust who was from Earth where systematic education was 14 years.

huh rust sighed just thinking about it.

Atleast i'm learning combat tomorrow so i can finally kickstart my fantasy life instead of just staying home all the time.
