Chapter 4 - Chap 3: Return to the Camp.

The journey back to the camp was grueling, their breaths ragged as they crossed the treeline marking the Enchanted Wistoria' s edge. The remaining soldiers stood guard at their posts; their expressions tired but relieved as they saw the prince return to their home base.

As they approached the main pavilion, a figure emerged from the shadows. Commander Kyle stood there, his muscular frame sturdy and imposing even in the half-light. His uniform was pristine but worn, a sharp reminder of duty and discipline. His sharp gaze landed on Edward as he drew close.

"Prince Edward," Kyle said, his voice steady and firm as he came to a halt. "You've returned to us."

Edward dismounted from his horse, his hand gripping the reins as his tired blue eyes met his commander's steady gaze. "Commander Kyle," he managed, his voice hoarse. "I was… delayed. The situation was difficult."

Kyle's brow furrowed, the faint glow of campfire now illuminated this feature, "What happened out there?"

Edward hesitated for a moment, his gaze falling to the grass at his feet as he tried to find the right words. He could feel the weight of his word building. "We were cornered," he began, "but I found my way through the danger with her. Althoria. She helped me escape."

Kyle's gaze sharpened at the name. his voice came again, carefully, his tone now a mix of inquiry and concern. "Her? What happened?"

Edward took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. His throat felt dry. "We fought together. The battle in Wistoria was... intense. We were surrounded, and she was there. She helped me through the worst of it. I owe her everything."

The commander crossed his arms, his posture casual but the intensity in his gaze unwavering. "You'll have to explain everything when you're rested. The council will want to know, we were beginning to think we had lost you, we were lucky His highness King Medd did not catch the wind of the news yet."

Edward let out a sigh. "I'll explain soon. For now, let's settle."

Commander Kyle nodded and gave a curt bow of his head. "Rest well, prince Edward. You've earned it"

And with that, he disappeared into the shadows, the weight of his presence lingering. Edward couldn't shake the conversation from his mind as he continued toward his tent.

After the ordeal in the enchanted cave and their escape through the Wistoria Forest, and prince Edward resting. The night was cold, the wind whipping through the trees as soldiers bustled quietly under the flickering glow of firelight. The camp was alive but calm a fragile respite from the horrors of battle. Edward stood at the edge of the firelight, staring into the dancing flames, his mind heavy with thoughts.

Althoria was beside him, sitting low on a log, her mage's cloak fluttering slightly in the breeze. She was speaking softly about spells, ancient texts, and magic how magic could be used as a weapon, how it could be the keys to survival. Her voice was clam, soothing even, and Edward found himself listening, captivated by her. The conversation was natural, unguarded, free of the weight of status and expectation. It felt as though the night belonged to them.

"You know," she said, glancing at the flames as though seeing more than fire, "you're not as rigid as the stories make you out to be. You've got fire in you."

Edward looked at her, and their eyes met for a moment. His voice came out unsteady. "Fire, you say? Is that supposed to be an insult, mage?"

She smirked faintly, her blue eyes glittering under the firelight. "Oh no. it's a compliment."

They shared a laugh, the tension easing. Edward found himself sitting beside her, closer than he would have anticipated, the air between them humming faintly with unspoken understanding. He could feel her warmth, even amidst the cold of the night. His thoughts were half-formed, his senses sharp but tangled.

Before long, his heart was racing as the moment lingered, she was beautiful in the way only someone so fierce and ethereal could be. He found himself drawn to her, the firelight flickering shadows over her face.

And then, he felt himself closing the distance. his hands found hers.
