"Why are you looking at me? It's normal that I can't beat the Martian Manhunter when I'm wearing a suit designed to fight Superman," Luthor said, noticing Clark's stare. He tried to defend himself, but he couldn't hide the fact that he'd just been smacked away.
"But you've never beaten Superman, either," Clark deadpanned, instantly silencing Luthor.
Luthor, a genius, had created his Kryptonite armor from technology and Kryptonite left behind after Superman's battle with Brainiac. While the armor was effective against Superman, and its combat power was impressive, Luthor was fighting against a team of powerful heroes. He knew that when Superman was angry, he played dirty. He wouldn't have been surprised if Superman had turned into Kryptonite Luthor.
"Let's drop it," Luthor said. "Do you have a plan?"
Clark and Luthor landed together. Because Clark had once been in a psychic link with Luthor, he had a rough idea of what Luthor's plan might entail. Still, he didn't know the details. Luthor, however, had a confident smile on his face.
"Don't worry," Luthor said. "Aside from the Martian Manhunter getting ambushed by Black Adam while rescuing people, everything is under control. But…" Luthor glanced at Clark. "I don't know if you'll accept it."
Clark didn't wait for the rest of the conversation. He rushed back to the battle, punching an infected person who was attacking Damian from behind.
"Clark, what happened?" Damian asked.
Clark unleashed a super breath, blowing several infected people away. "The Martian Manhunter was ambushed by Black Adam and got infected. But before he lost his mind, he knocked Black Adam in this direction. What's going on here?"
"The Martian Manhunter... no way!" Damian was shocked, as the Martian Manhunter was a pillar of the hero community. He quickly calmed down and pointed to the sea. "Wonder Woman is here. Black Adam won't last long, but there are too many infected people!"
Out on the water, Black Adam was being cornered by Superman and Wonder Woman. The three were in a fierce, head-on collision. Their powers were well-matched; not even Superman was strong enough to crush the other two.
But it was a two-on-one fight for justice. Black Adam couldn't withstand the combined assault. If Superman hadn't told Wonder Woman to hold back, she would have sliced Black Adam in half with the Sword of Vulcan early in the fight.
Even so, Black Adam was completely overwhelmed. After being hit hard and sinking, he resurfaced, only to be grabbed from behind by Superman, who put him in a chokehold. Wonder Woman then took out the Lasso of Truth and wrapped it around Black Adam.
The infected still retained their intelligence, but the Anti-Life Equation virus controlled them, compelling them to bring about death. The Lasso of Truth worked as long as the person had a mind.
"Tell me! Who gave you your power?"
The wizard Shazam had granted Black Adam's powers five thousand years ago, and his name was the key to Black Adam's abilities. Under the Lasso's influence, Black Adam struggled, but it was useless. He had to tell the truth.
"Sha... Shazam!"
The moment the name left his lips, a lightning bolt struck him, carefully avoiding Superman and Wonder Woman. Black Adam's divine power vanished, and he became the ordinary human, Teth-Adam. He was no longer a threat, but to make sure he couldn't gain his powers back, Superman used his heat vision to sever his vocal cords. Black Adam was dead.
The Black Witch, who was controlling the portal, saw Black Adam's defeat and knew the fight was lost. She knew she was no match for Superman and Wonder Woman, so she opened a portal, planning to take the infected army and retreat.
Nearby, Green Arrow knew he couldn't let her escape. As long as she lived, the survivors would never be safe. He drew his bow and aimed to kill her with a single arrow. He knew the remaining heroes would have to fight a massive horde of infected and that many of his less powerful allies might be infected, but he couldn't hesitate.
But just as he was about to release the arrow, Luthor appeared and hit Green Arrow's arm with a shock gun. The shock paralyzed him, and he dropped his bow.
"Luthor! What are you doing?!" Green Arrow shouted, confused and angry.
"Do you know how many casualties we'll have if we fight the infected army now? Even Superman can't protect everyone."
"So what's your plan? Let them go? That witch can use her teleportation powers to move the infected anywhere, even to your bedside!" Green Arrow said.
The Black Witch's teleportation abilities made her as dangerous as a speedster like Barry Allen. If she led the infected into the Dark World, even Superman wouldn't be able to find them.
"What a coincidence," Luthor said. "I have a solution. This is our chance. The infected are all moving toward the portal to retreat, and that's the perfect opportunity."
