"Soon, we had Alice in our life and everything seemed perfect. We were a happy family of four. When I held Alice in my hands for the first time, though young, I promised myself that I will always protect her. That she will never face anything like I did.
"And everything was going fine, until after a year of living with them, I heard something. I was sick and bedridden and didn't go to school that day. My mother's family, who had been freed after their punishment for abusing me, came looking for Jennifer. They demanded money from her for raising me for five years and said I was their daughter's child, so they had rights over me. They wanted money, or take me back with them. I was entirely scared to think they might take me back.
"Jennifer made sure I wouldn't see or hear them, so she took them to the rear side of the house and thought I was in deep sleep due to fever. But I was awake and went looking for her. I heard them arguing.
