Chapter 5 - #5. Will ordinary wizards be able to survive?

The trio barely made it into the classroom before the start of class.

"I bet those stairs are deliberately targeting us, trying to make us late!" Ron said, rubbing his still-reddened nose. He was the first to enter the classroom, and a glance at the empty podium relieved him.

"Looks like we're not too late after all. The professor hasn't arrived yet," Harry said, glancing at Ivan with some relief. Luckily, he had woken up early today, or they would definitely have been late.

"No, I think the professor is already here," Ivan said, ignoring their words and glancing at the tabby cat on the podium before quickly returning to his seat.

Harry and Ron were puzzled, but after they sat down, they saw the tabby cat on the podium suddenly jump down, its body twisting and deforming. By the time it landed, it had transformed into a middle-aged witch—Professor McGonagall!

Harry and Ron were instantly stunned. Only then did they understand what Ivan meant earlier, but they didn't understand how Ivan knew the cat was Professor McGonagall in disguise.

Professor McGonagall was equally surprised. She had come in her Animagus form partly to observe the new students and partly to use the Animagus transformation as the opening for this Transfiguration class, but she didn't expect to be recognized by a student.

With a slight nod of approval towards Ivan, Professor McGonagall began the first lesson of Transfiguration.

"Before we start, I must remind you that Transfiguration is one of the most complex and dangerous spells you will learn at Hogwarts. Anyone who wants to fool around in my class can get out right now and never come back!"

Professor McGonagall waved her wand and transformed the podium in front of her into a pig, and then, amidst the gasps of the young wizards, transformed it back into a podium.

Ivan sat in a front seat, watching the entire transformation process clearly.

Precise, fast, and flawless.

To transform a podium made of wood into a conscious creature was no different from directly altering the structure of matter, even briefly endowing inanimate objects with intelligence. The mystery and power of magic were evident at that moment.

The magic of the wizarding world might be slightly inferior in terms of destructive power, but it had its own unique aspects in other areas, and it was comprehensive and complete!

Professor McGonagall's demonstration immediately aroused the interest of the young wizards. After explaining the methods and techniques for casting the Transfiguration spell, she gave each student a matchstick, with the goal of turning it into a silver needle.

As Professor McGonagall began to explain the Transfiguration spell, a prompt echoed in Ivan's mind.

[Ding, you listened attentively to the professor's explanation and found the content somewhat obscure and difficult to understand. Transfiguration Spell proficiency slightly increased.]

Ivan opened the information panel and glanced at it. Sure enough, there was an extra line of information in the magic column.

[Transfiguration Spell Level 0 (6/100)]

Seeing that the content was as he had expected, Ivan was immediately delighted. This meant that no matter what kind of magic it was, he could learn it quickly by repeatedly practicing to increase proficiency.

However, after repeating the practice for half a class, Ivan realized that it didn't seem as simple as he had imagined.

"Ivan Hals!"

"Mr. Hals!"

The stern and loud voice echoed in the closed classroom, attracting the attention of the young wizards in the front and back rows.

Only when Professor McGonagall, who had just spoken, suddenly turned her head did the young wizards reluctantly turn back, waving their wands at the matchsticks in front of them over and over again, either troubled or entangled, trying to make even the slightest change happen.

Professor McGonagall looked around and saw that the matchstick on the desk of a certain messy-haired little witch had already undergone obvious changes, with some resemblance to a needle, which relieved her tightly pursed lips and revealed a hint of satisfaction.

After warning those young wizards who were still goofing off with her eyes, Professor McGonagall was able to turn her attention to the somewhat dazed boy in front of her and said sternly.

"Mr. Hals, I think I should have reminded you before that the release of spells is very dangerous. You should stay focused before releasing magic!"

"Also, repetitive mechanical practice cannot provide much help. I think you should focus a little more, concentrate, and imagine the appearance of a silver needle."

"Yes, Professor McGonagall, I will pay attention," Ivan Hals said politely, nodding. Under the witch's gaze, he concentrated his mind, and the wand in his hand, nearly twelve inches long, waved in the air with a mysterious frequency.

On the black-gray wooden table, a matchstick seemed to be driven by some force out of thin air, twisting and deforming, slowly changing its shape under the action of magic.

However, just as the matchstick was slowly deforming, it seemed to be disturbed by something, and in an instant, it returned to its original state.

This situation did not seem to be beyond Professor McGonagall's expectations. After seeing this situation, she simply nodded, left a sentence to practice more, and then turned and left. After all, most of the newly enrolled young wizards were mostly at this level.

Leaving Ivan Hals to mutter to himself in a low voice and sigh.

"It seems that accumulating proficiency is not that easy."

After trying for most of the class, Ivan had long lost his previous excitement.

Because after the initial surge, the speed of proficiency increase slowed down, and it was not possible to increase proficiency every time.

After a period of exploration, Ivan felt that rather than saying that practice increased the proficiency of skills, it was more like presenting his own level in the form of proficiency.

After most of the class, Ivan couldn't even achieve a long-term stable Transfiguration spell.

Just as Ivan Hals was daydreaming in Transfiguration class, he was suddenly poked a few times with a finger.

Ivan turned his head and found that Harry, with an excited face, was pointing at two pointed, faintly glowing, unidentified objects on the table in front of him and shouting loudly.

"Hey, Ivan, look, I did it, I did it!"

"Yes, Harry, you are very good and very talented!" Ivan looked at the unidentified object on the table and nodded. For the first Transfiguration class of the semester, being able to make obvious changes to the matchstick and maintain a fixed shape for a long time was already at the upper level among the young wizards, at least, much better than him.

"Really? I didn't expect it. You know, my aunt and uncle are all Muggles. Before entering school, I always doubted whether I could cast magic."

Having received Ivan's affirmation, Harry also poured out all his previous concerns and worries.

Before entering the magical world, Harry was just an ordinary eleven-year-old boy. Suddenly, he became the savior in everyone's eyes. Although he gained unimaginable attention and glory, he also shouldered unimaginable pressure.

Harry even imagined the embarrassing scene of himself not being able to learn magic, but fortunately, the situation did not become so bad.

Ivan was not surprised that Harry learned magic so quickly. After all, the Sorting Hat had made it very clear when assigning the house: brave, kind, and extremely talented!

The Sorting Hat had even suggested that Harry enter Slytherin House, and in his third year, he used the Patronus Charm, which he had just learned, to eliminate or drive away hundreds of Dementors.

If Hogwarts' free education hadn't been a little too excessive, this exceptionally talented savior would have at least reached the level of a professor before graduation.

In this regard, Ivan said that he was not envious, not envious at all.

After all, talented young wizards are a minority.

Ivan glanced left and right, and found that most of the young wizards were at his level, and he breathed a slight sigh of relief, but then he heard Professor McGonagall's high-pitched voice again.

"Very good, Miss Granger! Everyone can see that Miss Granger has successfully transformed the match into a silver needle. Five points to Gryffindor!"

In the aisle a few steps away from Ivan's seat, Professor McGonagall was holding up a silver needle, showing it to the surrounding young wizards.

And Miss Granger, sitting upright, with her messy brown hair scattered over her shoulders, was proudly raising her small head, accepting the surprised or surprised gazes of the surrounding young wizards.

Ivan, who was staring blankly at the silver needle, had his just adjusted mood explode again in an instant.

Are they even going to let ordinary wizards like them live?

"Damn it, it was so close! If I had practiced a little more, Professor McGonagall would have praised me right now!" Ron poked the table with his wand, glaring at Hermione with annoyance, as if he was annoyed that his glory had been stolen.

Ivan glanced at the unidentifiable object on Ron's table, which had lost its magic and turned back into a match, and felt that Ron wouldn't be able to reach Hermione's current level even after a few more lessons.

Although he wasn't much better, even worse.

Ivan sighed helplessly. What about the talent explosion after time travel? What about the soul fusion leading to a significant increase in mental strength?

The common tropes of various novels were not reflected in Ivan at all. Only then did Ivan understand how pertinent the Sorting Hat's evaluation of his talent was.

Of course, the fact that Transfiguration could not be stabilized was, in Ivan's estimation, partly due to talent, and partly due to the significant decrease in wand compatibility caused by the soul replacement.

If magic is equal to electricity, and the wand is equivalent to the plug and wiring, then the spells are various electrical appliances.

Now that there are occasional short circuits in the wires, the lights will naturally flicker.

However, Ivan couldn't solve the problem of the wand in a short time. I'm afraid he would have to use this wand for a semester.

After fighting wits with the match again for a while, the first Transfiguration class finally came to an end. Until the end, Ivan couldn't stabilize the shape after the match was transformed.

On the contrary, he discovered a useless little trick, that is, after releasing the magic power through the wand in a disorderly manner, he could form a slender magic beam, the only function of which was to restore the unstable Transfiguration to its original form.

This was accidentally discovered when Ivan almost blew up the match after failing to cast the Transfiguration Charm for the Nth time. Besides using it to tease Ron in Transfiguration class, it had no other use.

Just as Professor McGonagall announced the end of the class on the stage, another voice also resounded in Ivan's mind.

[Ding, after the host's unremitting efforts, the Transfiguration class has ended, please continue to work hard.

Comprehensive class evaluation: Medium

Evaluator: Minerva McGonagall

Reward: Academic Points * 5]

Looking at the information that suddenly appeared in his mind, Ivan hadn't expected it before.

You can get rewards for attending classes?

Ivan was a little surprised, especially when he saw the words "Academic Points", he couldn't help but complain, how is it the same as when he was in college before.

It seems that it is still evaluated by the professors of each subject.

Could it be that there will be rewards and punishments for good or bad performance in the final exam or something?

Of course, complaining is complaining, being able to discover another function of the system again, Ivan is still very happy, but I don't know what this academic point can be used for?

As early as after triggering the system panel, Ivan noticed the academic points.

Perhaps because he hadn't obtained it before, the relevant functions had not been activated. After this time, Ivan found the newly appeared exchange option in the panel soon.

What made Ivan slightly disappointed was that there was only one lonely Academic Master Experience Card in the entire exchange column. The exchange required one hundred academic points. The effect was to greatly improve learning efficiency within one hour.

Ivan's previous imagined exchanges of powerful magic, forbidden spells, etc. were all gone.

Is this going to take learning to the end?

Ivan glanced at the five academic points he had obtained after studying for a class, and suddenly felt a little desperate. Hogwarts only has three to five class hours a day.

According to five academic points per class, wouldn't it take a full five days of accumulation to exchange for an hour of Academic Master Experience Card?

Isn't this too pit?

What can you learn in an hour?

But things have come to this, Ivan has no choice. Besides this exchange, Ivan has no other way to improve this inefficient learning efficiency.

What else can you do?

Study hard

After the end of the Transfiguration class, the next one was the boring History of Magic class. Professor Binns, the teacher, was a rigid and conservative ghost. He spent the entire class talking about the class on his own, ignoring the situation of the young wizards below.

This made Ivan a little uncomfortable. The acquisition of academic points was obviously related to the evaluation of him in class by the teachers, and the teaching method of the History of Magic class prevented Ivan from even having the opportunity to improve the evaluation.

After the whole class, Ivan once again received a medium evaluation, as well as five academic points.

But soon, Ivan understood the benefits of the History of Magic class.

Because in the next Charms class, what he learned was how to apply magic power to objects smoothly and affect objects, which was the basis for learning the Levitation Charm. Due to the interference of the wand, Ivan spent a whole class to barely succeed, during which he blew up the props used for casting spells a full three times!

The results were only a little better than Neville's,

And the fastest Miss Granger, only released it three times to achieve success

For this reason, Ivan received a bad review in the class evaluation without exception, and only had two academic points

The only good news is that after a few days of wandering around, the progress of the [Explore Hogwarts] task in the task tree has reached 30%, and an average of two academic points are awarded for each percentage point increase, for a total of sixty academic points, which is much faster than the daily class rewards.

It finally allowed Ivan to see the hope of collecting one hundred academic points and exchanging for an Academic Master Experience Card.

I really can't find the location of the break, so let's send two chapters together. In addition, thank you for the new book investment. Your support is my greatest encouragement.
