A blinding flash of light jolted Vertin awake. She found herself floating in the immense, silent void of space. The darkness stretched out in every direction, dotted with the cold, distant light of stars. Her heart hammered in her chest, a frantic rhythm against the chilling emptiness.
"Huh? Where am I?" she muttered, her voice muffled by the helmet of her suit. Panic began to set in as she looked down. Instead of her usual clothes, she was clad in the familiar, blocky frame of a Mobile Suit. "Wait... I'm already in my rigging."
A sense of weary recognition settled over her. This wasn't a dream. This was real.
As she spun around, her eyes were drawn to a horrific destruction unfolding behind her. Multiple explosions bloomed like fiery flowers against the black canvas, illuminating a massive asteroid. Amidst the chaos, ships of various sizes exchanged fire. Her gaze locked onto a group of green-painted vessels, their distinctive mono-eyes glowing menacingly.
"Those ships... those are Zeon ships," she whispered, her mind racing. The iconic design of the Musai-class cruisers and Chivvay-class battleships was unmistakable.
Then, a chilling realization washed over her. "Wait a minute... I'm in Mobile Suit Gundam."
Just as the thought formed, a gigantic, crimson Mobile Armor tore through the battlefield. Its massive mega particle beam cannon fired a devastating energy blast that sliced through two Federation ships, cleaving them in half with terrifying ease.
"That Mobile Armor... it's the Big-Rang!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with awe and dread. It was a one-of-a-kind prototype, a symbol of Zeon's desperate ingenuity. But as her eyes focused, she saw something even more shocking. The pilot wasn't a human. It was an MS Girl.
"System, do a scan on that Mobile Armor, now!" she demanded, her voice urgent.
A familiar holographic screen flickered to life in her cockpit.
[Name: May
Race: MS Girl
Sub-race: MA-05Ad Big-Rang]
Upon seeing the race listed, Vertin's mind clicked. This wasn't the One Year War she knew. This was a parallel universe. A world where Mobile Suits were living, breathing girls. A sense of determination, and a bit of a morbid curiosity, settled in her.
"Well then... let's help Zeon win this war," she said, knowing full well that in the original timeline, they were doomed to fail. Maybe, just maybe, she could change things.
She accelerated her custom Zudah towards the Big-Rang, her thrusters flaring. Just as she approached, she spotted two Federation GMs moving in behind the giant Mobile Armor. She raised her Zaku Machine Gun, aimed at the one carrying a rocket launcher, and squeezed the trigger. The burst of rounds tore through the GM's head, causing it to explode in a brilliant flash.
"What the...?" the other GM ms girl cried out in surprise. She turned, but all she saw was a blue blur.
"Die!" Vertin yelled, activating the beam saber on her wrist.
"A beam sab—" The ms girl final word as she cut off as she was sliced in two, exploding in a shower of sparks.
As she moved closer to the Big-Rang, several Oggos Mobile Pods designed for close quarters combat aimed their weapons at her.
"Wait! Friendly, friendly! I'm friendly!" she shouted into her comms.
A moment later, the Big-Rang hailed her. "Are you a Zudah?" a desperate, feminine voice asked.
"Yes, I'm a custom Zudah," Vertin replied, her tone softening.
"Alright, please help us! There's another Federation attack coming!" the pilot, May, said with a clear plea in her voice.
"Alright," Vertin responded without hesitation.
As they waited for the next wave, she saw the Big-Rang supplying the Oggos using its AD Unit to resupply their weapons. It was a bizarre sight, a massive Mobile Armor acting as a logistics hub.
Her attention was then drawn to a group of four Zakus running away from the
battle. "Hey, you!" she yelled, "Come back and help us!"
She got no response.
"Don't bother," one of the Oggos said to Vertin. "They're just cowards."
Suddenly, another squad of Mobile Suits entered the fray two Doms and two more Zakus. Vertin called out to them, and this time, they answered.
"Thanks for the assistance," Vertin said to one of the Doms.
"No problem," the Dom replied. "We have to help the others escape. After this, we'll be able to head to Axis."
Vertin's stomach dropped. "Yeah," she said nervously. Axis was a clear red flag. She know that zeon would lose this battle with heavy losses.
"By the way, which unit are you from?" the Dom asked.
"I... well, I don't have a unit," she said, hoping the Dom wouldn't get suspicious.
"Oh, so you're an ace or one of the scattered units from the battle?"
"Well, I didn't say I was an ace, but I am a custom unit," she said.
"Oh, so you're an ace then! It's good to have an ace with us after all. Most of our aces are all dead," the Dom said happily.
Vertin was utterly confused. "Eh?"
"Wait, an ace? Here?" one of the Zakus chimed in.
"Yes, she's an ace, isn't that right?" the Dom asked her.
"Well... I am an ace," she said nervously, a lie forming in her mouth before she could stop it.
"Well, that's good to know! It's nice to have an ace with us," the Zaku said, a smile evident in her voice.
"Lock in! Federation Mobile Suits incoming!" the Big-Rang warned, cutting their conversation short.
"System, activate combat skills," Vertin commanded.
[Assault Booster]
[Emergency Evasion Controller]
[Forced Injector]
[High Performance Balancer]
[skills have been activated. Happy hunting.]
A surge of energy coursed through her Mobile Suit. She accelerated towards a Federation GM Kai, her beam saber flaring to life. She cut the suit in half with a single, lightning-fast strike.
"So fast!" one of the GMs exclaimed as she tried to shoot Vertin, but couldn't even graze her.
"Keep firing!" a GM yelled at a Ball unit.
"Too slow!" Vertin taunted, slicing through three more GMs in a blue blur.
"That speed... only one person can do that... The Red Comet!" a veteran GM pilot said, his voice laced with fear. "Retreat!"
The remaining Federation Mobile Suits turned and fled.
"Federation Mobile Suits are retreating," the Big-Rang announced.
"Copy," one of the Zakus replied, turning back to the Big-Rang.
Vertin drifted back towards the Big-Rang, its thrusters flaring as she decelerated. The fighting had ended as quickly as it had begun. As she approached, she did a quick scan of her allies. The two Doms and two Zakus were intact, as were the Oggos. She saw no new explosions, no telltale signs of damage.
"No casualties, that's good," she said to herself, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.
Her words were picked up by the Big-Rang's comms.
"Yes, it's nice that no more lives have been taken," the pilot, May, replied. Her voice was tinged with a deep, weary sadness. "I... I just want this war to end."
Vertin looked at the ms girl expression through the translucent cockpit window of the Big-Rang. May's face was etched with exhaustion, her shoulders slumped. Vertin then looked at the other Mobile Suit ms girls. The Zakus and Doms seemed to carry the same heavy burden. Their movements were slow and deliberate, a stark contrast to the ferocity of the battle. Every single one of them looked tired, just wanting the conflict to be over.
"We just have to hold out, right?" Vertin said, her voice softer now, trying to comfort the group. "Then we can all go home. That's all we need to do."
For a moment, a flicker of hope passed through the comms. But it was extinguished as quickly as it had appeared. As A formation of Federation ships and Mobile Suits emerged from space.
