Chapter 2 - The New Beginning

After a year of early rising and continuous training in the dark, the result has begun to speak for itself, even when he couldn't afford to register for a gym. Finally, he was getting his shit together. 6 '5 tall, with a wide chest, broad shoulders and a wide back, his attractiveness was undeniable at that very young age.

He just finished his morning routine, and he was drained, tired and lost in thoughts, rolling back and forth on his mat.

These days, Kencity was in despair; food was costly, and the poor could not survive on their income alone; they could not live comfortably without borrowing money from loan sharks, which was a terrible idea.

He stopped thinking and stood up to meet his mother in the living room.

He stopped at the door and said, "I have to look for a job, maybe at a restaurant or start doing something, so we won't starve to death".

His mother was shocked by the level of his confidence; she said, "You don't need to work, my son; I am preparing to go meet Mr Prince and borrow some money from him",

Eli sat down and said, "How will you pay back the loan? And, you know Mr Prince is very ruthless when dealing with the people that don't meet the repayment deadline, he goes as far as taking people's properties and throwing them out to the street".

"Is that true?" His mother asked,

He continued, "Bro Sola's friend was telling me how powerful Mr Prince is; even the government can not stop him. We can't pay back by any means, so, Mom; we can't afford to offend him". He enters his room, takes a bath, dresses up and leaves the house.

He steps into the affluent neighbourhood and walks around looking for a job. He said,

"Finally, I am doing what I condemn so much in my heart".

He stopped by a restaurant where there was a visible placard that an offer was available. He opens the door and walks in; his gaze falls on the girl at the reception, she looks interesting for a boy who knows nothing about girls. She smiled at him at first glance; he walked up to her

"Hello, you look interesting" Angela was still smiling as she responded, "Thank you".

Eli didn't know how to go with the flow because he wanted a job to help his mother, "I saw a placard outside" "Oh, the placard?" she interrupted him. "The HR will reach out to you. Can I have your number and address?" Eli shakes his head answering her without saying a word.

She stood up and walked into the HR office.

It had been up to five minutes since she left him at the reception. Eli was uncomfortable and preparing to leave because he didn't want to be accused of theft or anything. Life is tough for the people on the low hierarchy ladder.

Angela was the restaurant owner's fourth daughter. Her father was a little sick but because she was brilliant, her father asked her to take his place. Because of her pride and the status of her father, she would never stand up for anyone, not even for the petty reason that a boy who doesn't own a phone yet is looking for a job. But for Eli, it was different. She said to herself as she stepped into the HR office, "I have to do something if I want him to work here".

The HR was surprised when he saw her coming in, because she usually calls for him, and he would run there like a thief. He stood up immediately as she approached his table

"Good morning, Miss Angela, you should have called for me if you wanted to see me", She sat down gently, like a woman of honour before she responded, "Someone at the reception sought employment, but he's very young; I have never seen my father employ a young boy before". "Is that why you came all the way here?" HR asked her in a surprised tone.

She said nothing but locked eye contact with him, "We don't employ young people because they will be filled with the feeling of youth not like older employees who have responsibilities", he quickly said.

Before she could get back to her seat at the reception, Eli was already approaching the door. She wanted to call his name, but then she remembered she had never asked for his name.

Eli was already at the door and he heard footsteps moving very rapidly towards him; he didn't look back; he just sprinted into the street.

Things happen very fast. Before Angela can get past the door, Eli has been run over by a car.
