"Yesterday, it was like I was watching a gangster movie, but this one was actually happening right before my eyes. If it weren't for the arrival of these men, I would have been raped." A wave of sadness washes over her as she explains to her friend.
Eliza placed her friend's head on her chest, comforting her. "Thank God you're safe now, Hannah". Eliza wanted to know who these men were but the situation was not right to ask Hannah about it."
(Hannah continued sobbing)
"My dear daughter, what happened? I was overwhelmed with fear and couldn't sleep a wink all night long." Hannah's mother said on arrival at the hospital.
"She's getting better and she's going to be fine, ma", Eliza responded.
"This hospital is an elite hospital, and the bills will be unaffordable for us, Hannah". That was the initial concern weighing on her mind, but she made it a priority to check in on her daughter's well-being first before mentioning it.
"Her Boss took care of that. Put your mind at rest, ma. She continued, "I'll be leaving for work now since you're here". Said Eliza.
She patted her friend and left. Just a few minutes later, Eli came in " Good morning, how are you doing today?".
Eli turns to the old woman sitting beside Hannah and bows his head respectfully.
"Good morning, she's fine, thank you". Hannah's mother responded.
"I am getting better, thank you so much". Hannah responded too.
"We are so sorry about what happened yesterday, and I promise it won't happen again. We are putting things in place". Eli reassured her.
"I'll tell the Doc to discharge me tomorrow," Hannah said worriedly.
"No, no, no, take your time, nobody is filling up your space. I'll be back very soon". Eli walked out towards the doctor's office.
"Mr Eli, it's nice to see you this morning". Doc gently reached out his hand for a warm handshake.
"Doc, it's nice to see you too, and thank you for your accommodation last time when I was here". Eli grins.
"Mr Eli, if I weren't the one who treated you the last time, I would never agree if I were told that you were the patient who was run over and suffered a serious injury like that. Look at you".
"I never believed myself that I would stand on my feet again, it was a really terrible experience Doc. But you made it possible, I am very grateful for that."
"I never believed it myself Mr Eli, but all glory be to God."
The two of them shook hands once again before Eli left the Doctor's office.
"Wow, are you Eli?" A nurse approached him immediately after he came out of the doctor's office.
He turned his head slowly and looked in her direction. The sight before him caused a rush of adrenaline, and he bit his lips, suppressing the surge of emotions that threatened to spill over.
She has a curvaceous figure that fills out her light blue scrubs alluringly, with a pronounced hourglass shape that turns heads. Her face is captivating, her almond-shaped eyes that sparkle with a hint of mischief, framed by long, dark lashes. Her skin glows with a warm, rich tone, and her full lips curve into a confident, inviting smile. With her neatly braided hair swept into a high, elegant updo, she exudes both professionalism and a sultry charm, making her magnetic to everyone.
"Yeah, do you work here?" Eli responded.
"Yeah, I was the one who usually checked your pulse, respiration, and temperature when you were involved in an accident the last time".
"Oh, I have never seen you in my lifetime. Thank you so much, I never believed I could stand on my feet once again, if it weren't for you guys." Eli said while locking eye contact with her.
"You're welcome! I have to hand it to you, though—you've got an amazing girlfriend! I mean, she must really love you to stick around even on your worst days." The nurse teases.
"Oh, you know I couldn't joke about her after that day! She's wholesome, thank you". Eli responded.
Honestly, Eli never joked about Angela since that day, he swore to himself that he would protect her even when it cost his life, because she was the one who made it possible for him to say yes to life again.
"You've been through a lot, and feel free to reach out to me anytime you need anything, maybe a check-up or complaint," The nurse said.
"Thank you, I appreciate that. Let me take your information," Eli gave her his phone.
"Text me your name so I can save your number. I'm looking forward to it!" She gave him back his phone after inserting her information.
"I will," Eli said while walking toward Hannah's ward.
"You're unpredictable. It might have been better to share your business card instead; having a nurse personally input her number into a visitor's phone is unprofessional." Her colleague smirked.
"Inserting my number might actually have a shot. But my business card? Please, it's just going to get tossed on his way out or end up crumpled at the bottom of his back pocket," The nurse responded.
"Are you really trying to imply that he's far beyond your reach?" Her colleague said.
"No man is far beyond my reach, but I don't think he was as intimidated by my appearance as the men I've met before. I think he has hotter women on his line, and I might not get a chance."
"Truly, I notice that too". Her colleague responded.
"Are you guys done gossiping? Now get back to work!"
Both of them were taken aback when they heard the doctor's reprimand.
