Chapter 20 - If I Must

"Mommy, I'm back!" Liebe called.

Lilith rushed over. "Where were you?! I was so worried!"

"I saw a fish—this big, no wait, this big—and I chased it. I had an idea, summoned some friends, and caught it! Then I met some of your friends. They said I was in 'international waters.' We had steak. It was fun!"

"Where's the fish?"

"My friends are bringing it."

"Your friends?"

"The ones I made with magic. Let me ask them… They said 15 minutes away."

"I can help," Lilith said.

"Use this chain!" Liebe offered.

Lilith enhanced her strength with Void Magic and began pulling. "How long is this chain?!"

Moments later, the giant fish appeared—20 meters long—carried by angels.

Lilith stared. "What the hell are those things?!"

"They're my magic friends!" Liebe said. "Thanks, everyone—you can go now!"

The angels vanished.

"They were terrifying," Lilith whispered.

"Don't worry, Mommy, they're friendly!"

Tenebris walked over. "Liebe caught a fish?! That thing's huge!"

Lilith squinted at it. "It looks… familiar."

That evening, it was time to grill.

"How do we cook it?" Tenebris asked.

"I'll summon my friends!" Liebe said.

"Dark Magic: Summon Angelus Tenebris!"

Five angels emerged and began cutting the fish with eerie precision.

"They're scary," Tenebris muttered.

"They don't even have faces!" Lilith added.

"That's rude!" Liebe said. "They have names—Joe, Guel, and Halbert!"

"Sorry, kid. Let's eat."

While they ate, a female figure approached. "Hello, Lilith."

"Thia! Congrats on becoming Black Lion's new captain."

"Thanks. Still getting used to it."

"How did you know I was here?"

"Your son told me. I brought a gift."

"A gift?"

Thia handed her a long scroll. "It's a fine."

Lilith unrolled it. "What?! 30,000 gold coins?! For a fish?!"

Thia deadpanned, "It's not just the fish. It includes destruction of coral reefs, endangering ecosystems, and the medical bill of the officer who fainted reading this."

"I don't even know that fish!"

"We have a photo of Liebe with the fish. And an interrogation video where he says you're his mom."

"You didn't torture him, right?"

"No need—he talks as much as you."

"Please reduce the fine!"

"You're nobles. It's not that much."

"It's my five-year salary!"

"Well…"

"I'll have to beg Dad…"

"Good to know."

As Thia left, Tenebris asked, "What's wrong?"

"She handed me a fine."

He read it—and nearly had a heart attack. "HOW is it this much?!"

Just then, Lilith's comms buzzed.

"Go for Lilith."

A voice replied, "There's a banquet at 7 PM tomorrow. Project Grinberryal got the green light. But one noble—Gabriel Silver—insists you attend."

"I'm on vacation. Tell him to get a prostitute."

"He's funding the project. Please, Vice Captain."

"…Fine. Set a portal for 10 AM tomorrow."
