As the clock struck 12, Nyx slapped her wing across Luke's face, waking him up.
"… Did you really have to wake me up like this?" he complained after a while, rubbing his eyes.
"Wake me up at 12," Nyx said, mimicking Luke's voice. "I can't keep my eyes open…"
Luke's mouth twitched wryly.
Yesterday, after the repeated use of Quirks, he had already lost most of his Stamina Points. To make matters worse, he had almost mutated, losing control. Again.
However, Luke didn't regret it.
He had seen All Might, burning like a sun, with mini red-blue black holes spinning around him against a background of multicolored points of light.
The Convergence of Fate — that's what Miss Justice had called it.
After regaining some control through Cogitation, Luke had tried to gain more information about this phenomenon from the System. However, the only reply he had received was that it was difficult to explain to him as he was now — whatever that meant.
Still, Luke was enormously interested in it because —
— this was the same reason that had let him regress.
Mr. Fool had mentioned that at the time of Luke's death, there was a strong convergence of fate on him that had fueled the channel, connecting his world to the Gray Castle.
Since then, this was the first time Luke came into contact with this phenomenon again.
I don't understand, Luke thought, getting up and apologizing to Nyx because she was as tired as him. Why the fate converged upon me before my death? All Might is All Might…
No matter how, Luke just couldn't picture himself in the same burning sun-like atmosphere, replacing All Might.
Sighing, pushing the matter to the back of his head, Luke nodded at Nyx, snapping his fingers.
Using Descorrer, Luke and Nyx arrived deep into the Akiyoshido Cave System in the Yamaguchi Prefecture as Dr. Blessed.
Luke desperately lacked an operational base to freely experiment.
First, such a base might not be enough to hold the mutated experiments in the city, even if he were to somehow manipulate someone to get one. There was a reason the Blue Site was deep underground in a nondescript, remote forest.
Second, at any time, the base could end up getting destroyed or become a target of his ever-growing enemies. It was especially so given the fact that the entire country's ruffians were searching for him.
What if one day some idiot ended up blasting the entire base, killing innocents?
As much as Luke liked to think he had made his peace with killing his enemies, he still couldn't stomach the death of innocent people because of his actions.
That's how this cave system came into the picture.
Akiyoshido Cave System spanned many miles underground, with only a minute portion of it opened to the public.
Luke and Nyx had visited it with the Saionjis once.
Ever since he had made up his mind to kidnap a Nomu, he and Nyx had been coming here, exploring it, going deeper and deeper into the cave system using Descorrer.
This was how they found this space, miles away from where they had started.
It was an almost spherical dome-like space with an underground waterfall streaming through the entire section, dividing the entire space into two parts.
From the roof, dark gray stalactites, covered in light green and blue dots of light, hung, staring down hard at the limestone floor.
"This is good, right?" Luke asked, putting his hands inside the white coat's pockets with Nyx perched on his shoulder. "Over there we can build a lab. A cryo storage, too, perhaps? Another lab for Potion Ingredients in advance…
"A storage to rear animals and plants for Bioalchemy? Yeah, that would be best, I guess."
Nyx snapped. "Oh, my feathery ass! Don't tell me you are still complaining about that damn snake?!"
Luke licked his lips nervously. "Maybe I am. I told you to bring two animals. You brought the first two you laid your eyes on."
Nyx and Luke eyed each other for a moment.
Then, she pounced on his face, slapping his face with her wings.
After fighting for a while, as Luke desperately tried to pull her away, spitting out the feathers, they finally calmed down, letting out deep breaths.
"If that Nomu went wild here," Nyx cawed, pruning her wings, "then this entire cave will collapse."
Luke had to agree with her reasoning.
By sheer luck, he had managed to catch a Lower Tier Nomu as Luke hadn't known that Shigaraki would be bringing two of them.
Still, a Lower Tier Nomu was enough to wreak havoc if he wasn't prepared for it.
Unlike the Upper Tier Nomu, who didn't react when caught by the police later, this one might be different.
Luke had already brought out a strong reaction from a Nomu that wasn't supposed to be capable of reasoning or intelligence.
What if suddenly this Lower Tier Nomu also went crazy, attacking him right after releasing it?
That would be a disaster.
For this reason, Luke had injured it first with a laser.
Also, if he hadn't injured it, then there were high chances of the Nomu attacking him right after exchanging positions with the snake.
Then, the Upper Tier Nomu would have found Luke, unlike what truly happened.
Luke drummed his fingers on the slick stones and then nodded to himself. "Let's get an upgrade, first."
Nyx's eyes suddenly widened. "You are doing it now?!"
Smiling, Luke took out a vial. It contained a liquid displaying a mix of gold, yellow, and red, with distinctly separate colors at their boundaries, bubbles churning and fizzing within it.
…
[A week ago, I really thought you would be going for the Trickmaster Potion first, Luke. Why Clown?]
…
Sequence 8 of the Seer Pathway — Clown, wouldn't enhance his Spirit Points by a lot, Luke knew.
It would definitely enhance his Danger Intuition, though, along with giving him a new power — Paper Daggers.
But that wasn't why Luke had gone with it as the first step toward Sequence 8.
…
[Is it because of having full control over facial expressions?]
…
Yes. That was one of the reasons, but not the prime one.
Luke smiled, opening the vial. "Wouldn't it grant me a near inhumane sense of balance, Miss Justice?" he jested. "The stones are so slippery here. I just don't want to lose my footing…"
"Yeah," Nyx nodded. "You already look silly enough as it is. Once you slip… it's over…"
Shaking his head ruefully, Luke downed the potion while cogitating.
Luke felt as if worms were crawling out of his bones, squirming inside his muscles.
He could hear a distinct rumbling as if some ghost was screaming right next to his ears, forcing him to listen closely.
However, it had already been a long time since he digested his Seer Potion.
With his perfect Cogitation, it didn't take him long to resist all these feelings and settle down the changes.
Luke stood up and felt like he could even control the tip of his toe.
With a thought, he let Miss Justice show him his Stats.
…
[
Blessed Stats:
Quirk — Bioalchemy
Stats:
— Spirit: 350
— Stamina: 175
]
…
There were around 40 Points of increment in Spirit, but the Stamina Points were still the same, Luke noticed.
"My turn!" Nyx cawed loudly, her voice echoing within the cave.
It was time — for a Raven to become a Seer!
