Chapter 10 - chapter 10:Outplay

Kill to grow stronger, that was the undeniable truth of the apocalypse. The more you killed, the stronger you became. This kill would mark the start of one of the greatest stories to have ever grazed the cosmos. It would start a chain of events that would drag everyone into it, whether they wanted to be brought along or not.

Meanwhile, the protagonist Ethan looked at his panel, unsure where to place his stat points. After each level up, one gained stat points, which could directly boost one's strengths. Every level offered 5 stat points. Ethan pondered on how to place his stat points. Normally, he would have gone all into strength, but that was when he had an average level of stats. Now, it was all unequal. He thought for a while and finally decided on how to distribute his stat points.

Ethan judged that speed and endurance would suit him most in this scenario. A warm feeling coursed through his body, filling him with untold bliss. His muscles felt more taut, ready to spring at any moment; his skin also felt somehow tougher without its appearance changing. He quite liked it.

Suddenly, clicking and groaning sounds began to resound in the hallway, snapping Ethan out of his bliss. They were coming, he thought. He needed to get out of here. He couldn't go back the way he came, as he was pretty sure it was heavily packed with Corrupted. His mind started thinking in overdrive. The sounds were getting closer. He looked behind him to see a window. Seems like I'll have to abandon visiting the kitchen, he thought.

He took the extinguisher, now dripping with the blood of the now-dead Corrupted, and began smashing it onto the window, hoping to break it. The university had reinforced the windows, making sure they couldn't open so students couldn't commit suicide by jumping out. Now, that decision was making Ethan's life hell.

He increased the intensity, cursing himself for not putting his stat points into strength. The clicks grew louder, closer—they were going to find him. With renewed fury, he struck again. Eventually, a crack began to form, bringing a smile to his face. With a final smash, the glass broke, shattering into pieces.

Suddenly, three Corrupted appeared from the corner behind Ethan. Clicking sounds confirmed they had located him. They charged, but Ethan was faster. He hopped onto the ledge, using it as a bounce pad, and launched himself into a nearby tree, avoiding the three-story drop that would've surely killed him.

The Corrupted, not being as smart, launched themselves, aiming to grab onto him, but were unsuccessful. They collided with the windowsill, launching them over the edge. They tumbled down the two-story fall, instantly turning into blood spatters.

On his tree, Ethan smiled. Still as stupid as always, he thought. Though regrettably, he didn't gain any EXP from that.
