Chapter 186 - Chapter 186: Return to Starfall Pavilion

While Xiao Yan was activating his bloodline power, the outside world was in complete uproar over what had happened in the Fire Flood Saint's tomb. By the time he returned to Starfall Pavilion, Yao Lao was already grabbing him with anxious concern, bombarding him with a long list of questions that left him dizzy. Only later did he understand that Yao Lao had been worried that he might've had his Heavenly Flame stolen during the chaos.

"Don't worry, Teacher. I was in seclusion during that time. I never went there," Xiao Yan said, scratching his head with a bashful look. With his youthful, harmless demeanor, no one could have imagined that this same man had been the mastermind behind the total sweep inside the Fire Flood Saint's relic.

"Good… that's good…" Yao Lao finally breathed a sigh of relief. At first, he'd worried Xiao Yan might have rushed there after hearing the news, and now he was more afraid that he really had gone. After all, no one had expected that the Dou Saint relic making waves across the continent was actually a complete hoax.

He was very aware of how vital Heavenly Flames were to Xiao Yan. If one of them had been forcibly taken, it could've ruined his foundation and potentially trapped him permanently at his current level. Knowing Xiao Yan had come through unscathed, Yao Lao could finally rest easy.

"Teacher, did you break through to Half-Saint?" Xiao Yan asked with a smile, sensing the aura radiating from him.

"Yes, after you left to temper yourself, I went into seclusion too. During that time, I switched to the cultivation method you gave me and focused on refining it. Only then did I barely reach the Half-Saint level," Yao Lao replied with a cheerful chuckle.

Though Half-Saint wasn't quite a Dou Saint yet, it meant one foot had stepped into that realm. Even among the ancient clans, it gave him a degree of prestige. All of it was thanks to Xiao Yan. Without the cultivation scroll he'd given him, it might have taken Yao Lao several times longer to make the breakthrough.

"Right, Teacher. While I was out training, I found a type of pill in a ruin. They say it boosts one's cultivation speed. I still have one left." Xiao Yan reached into his storage ring and retrieved a vivid green pill, handing it to Yao Lao. "Take it, Teacher. Maybe it'll help you reach Dou Saint faster."

Seeing the pill, Yao Lao was briefly stunned. Then he shook his head. "I'm too old. Even if I take it, it probably won't help much. You should keep it."

"I've got extras. Just take it," Xiao Yan said with a smile.

"Sigh…" Seeing how insistent Xiao Yan was, Yao Lao could only sigh and accept the pill. Under Xiao Yan's gaze, he swallowed it. Honestly, even though Xiao Yan had said it could improve his cultivation speed, Yao Lao didn't think much of it.

He was already a Half-Saint. Unless it was a ninth-grade pill, most elixirs wouldn't have any significant effect. But ninth-grade pills weren't exactly lying around on the ground. Yet the moment he swallowed it, Yao Lao's expression changed drastically.

He could feel it clearly—his blood suddenly began to boil!

Yao Lao had once belonged to the Yao Clan, one of the eight ancient clans. But because his Dou Di bloodline was so thin, he had been exiled. However, the pill Xiao Yan gave him had instantly reawakened that sliver of dormant Dou Di bloodline. He could even feel its grade rising at an alarming rate!

Just as Yao Lao had predicted, a Half-Saint like him wouldn't gain much from anything less than a ninth-grade pill. But the pill Xiao Yan gave him wasn't really a pill at all—it was a bloodline essence, condensed from Yao Tian's Dou Di bloodline.

The reason Xiao Yan hadn't used it himself was because he'd saved it for Yao Lao.

Both Yao Lao and Yao Tian were from the Yao Clan, and Yao Tian's bloodline ranked among the top three in the entire clan. Using it to reawaken Yao Lao's own dormant bloodline brought a tremendous transformation.

As the bloodline essence merged into him, Yao Lao's bloodline instantly soared to match Yao Tian's former level!

Which meant his future potential had multiplied exponentially. Under normal conditions, advancing to Dou Saint would've been a near-impossible task without a lucky encounter. But now, with this evolved Dou Di bloodline, Yao Lao's path to Dou Saint had become many times easier—his future limit might even go far beyond a mere one-star Dou Saint.

"This…" Yao Lao stared at Xiao Yan, stunned. "Brat, this pill…"

"Pill? What pill?" Xiao Yan smiled brightly. "I don't know what you're talking about, Teacher."

Yao Lao blinked. Then it clicked. Anything capable of enhancing a Dou Di bloodline was enough to cause a bloodbath. Even the ancient clans would go to war for it. It was a secret that needed to be buried deep. Otherwise, Starfall Pavilion would be doomed.

So, master and disciple tacitly dropped the topic.

After chatting a while longer, Xiao Yan stood up and left to begin preparations for the Pill Tower appointment ten days from now. But just as he opened his door, a small figure came barreling toward him.

He hurriedly caught the girl—Zi Yan—in his arms. "Careful, don't fall and hurt yourself."

"I'm tough! Even if I fall, I won't get hurt. Besides, I've got you." Zi Yan giggled and planted a kiss on his cheek. "Oh right, I've got good news—I broke through to Dou Zong!"

"Really?" Xiao Yan blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected her to advance so quickly while he was away. Maybe the abundant resources in the Central Plains were much better than the Black-Corner Region's, which would explain her rapid improvement.

"You see how hard I've been training? Shouldn't I get a reward?" Zi Yan grinned, her eyes full of expectation. "You promised to give me some herbs before, right? Can I have them now?"

"You're impossible." Xiao Yan shook his head and tossed her a batch of pills refined from Dragon Saliva Flamegrass. Zi Yan eagerly stuffed them into her mouth, then skipped over to Xiao Yan with a beaming smile.

Seeing her approach, Xiao Yan sighed in resignation. 'This little girl… don't tell me she really thinks she can overpower me again like she did the first time?'
