Xiao Yan, being an expert in controlling Heavenly Flames, naturally had more knowledge about them than anyone else on the continent. So when he saw the little girl formed from flame, he immediately understood what she was.
Heavenly Flames were miraculous existences of heaven and earth. When they existed long enough, they would develop spiritual intelligence. Examples of this were the Fallen Heart Flame and Nether Poison Flame he had previously tamed. However, most of these flame intelligences were only at the level of children, acting purely on instinct. Only a few extremely powerful flames, like the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame or the Nihility Devouring Flame held by the Hun Clan, possessed true intellect, indistinguishable from that of humans.
Occasionally, when these flames were refined, their residual consciousness would not entirely dissipate. Instead, it would undergo a peculiar transformation, forming a flame spirit. However, the chance of this happening was astronomically low—one in a million. Even in Xiao Yan's past life as the Wrathful Demon Saint, he had never managed to obtain one, let alone anyone else.
Yet this little flame spirit in his hand was… different. Although several of the flames he'd refined had some semblance of spiritual consciousness, most had already been wiped clean during the refining process. The only reason a flame spirit had now manifested was likely due to the fusion of multiple flames inside his body.
Xiao Yan experimented for a while and confirmed that the flame spirit was indeed useful—her presence greatly enhanced his speed in condensing the Demonic Wrath Flame Lotus, and its destructive power had also clearly increased. With her aid, his combat strength had risen to a new level.
However, what puzzled him a bit was… why did his flame spirit have to take the form of a loli?
'Isn't this going to make me look like a loli-con when I summon her during battles?' he thought with a twitch of his lips.
"Master…" Just as he was spiraling into strange thoughts, the flame spirit clung to his arm and softly cooed in a tone filled with affectionate dependence. Hearing the coquettish voice, Xiao Yan could only rub her head in helpless resignation. Watching her close her eyes and enjoy the gesture so fully, he chuckled, "Alright, I'll give you a name. Let's call you Xiao Yao. How's that?"
He wasn't particularly gifted when it came to naming, so he went with something casual. Fortunately, the little loli-flame seemed to love it. As soon as she received her name, she excitedly flew in a circle around him like a little fairy.
However, just as the atmosphere was becoming warm and harmonious, the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python hiding in Xiao Yan's sleeve suddenly poked out her head. Upon seeing Xiao Yao, her eyes filled with hostility. Xiao Yao immediately sensed the provocation and charged over without hesitation. And just like that, the two little creatures began to brawl.
Both were newly born with childlike minds, and both had formed deep bonds with Xiao Yan. Now that they'd spotted a potential rival vying for his affection, it was like two kids fighting over candy—jealousy flared instantly, and fists (and flames) flew.
Although the two were of similar strength, Xiao Yao held the upper hand due to one critical factor—she had hands. Being humanoid gave her a distinct advantage over the snake-bodied Seven-Colored Python. Once she pinned down her opponent, the python couldn't retaliate effectively. Plus, as a flame spirit, Xiao Yao was immune to most poisons, rendering the snake's toxic defense useless. The outcome of the match was soon clear.
After subduing her rival, Xiao Yao placed her hands on her hips and hovered proudly in the air, radiating smugness. Meanwhile, the defeated Seven-Colored Python looked pitifully at Xiao Yan, as if to say, Why didn't you help me?
Xiao Yan was amused. Still chuckling to himself, he dug into his storage ring and tossed out a pill to the pitiful snake. The pill in question was none other than a Transformation Pill—something countless high-rank magical beasts yearned for. He had originally prepared it for Zi Yan, but she had already mastered her transformation ability. So the pill had been left unused—until now.
The moment Xiao Yan threw it over, the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python opened her tiny mouth and gulped it down. A soft light soon radiated from her body, and in the next instant, a petite, delicate humanoid figure stood before Xiao Yan.
In her human form, she looked strikingly similar to Queen Medusa—essentially a younger, more innocent version. She didn't even bother putting on clothes and directly lunged at Xiao Yao. The latter let out an indignant cry and transformed into a similarly petite form to engage in a ferocious aerial brawl in front of Xiao Yan.
This time, Xiao Yao no longer had the upper hand. The two battled fiercely, unable to gain an advantage. When Xiao Yao tried to cheat by invoking flame energy, Xiao Yan immediately intervened, stopping her before the battle escalated further.
He couldn't afford to have his freshly-acquired rare beast injured—or worse, destroyed—by an outburst. He had plans to raise her to the Dou Sheng level, after all.
Xiao Yan's blatant favoritism infuriated Xiao Yao, who returned to her smaller form and sulked on his shoulder, puffing out her cheeks in protest. From her perspective, if he hadn't interfered, she would've won for sure.
On the other hand, the transformed Seven-Colored Python snuggled into Xiao Yan's embrace, nuzzling her head affectionately against his chest. If she were still in her magical beast form, this might have looked adorable. But as a humanoid girl—still unclothed—and possessing the inherent charm of the Medusa bloodline, her affectionate actions carried a different weight entirely.
That said, Xiao Yan was already immune to such things.
After all, back in the Xiao Family, Zi Yan had clung to him in the exact same way—plus the years of "teaching moments" and experience with troublesome girls had strengthened his resistance considerably.
He gently pulled the Seven-Colored Python away and draped a robe over her. While sorting through his storage ring for clothing, he suddenly noticed just how many outfits belonging to Zi Yan, Qing Lin, and Xiao Yixian he had stored away…
'Have I unknowingly set foot down a path I can never return from?' he thought with a strange expression.
The young python girl, still mentally like a child, didn't understand why clothing was necessary. But after hearing Xiao Yan's repeated insistence, she obediently nodded. Having first laid eyes on Xiao Yan upon awakening, with his soul imprint embedded inside her and having received his nourishing energy, she now saw him as her closest and most trusted person in the world.
As long as Xiao Yan asked her to do something—she would always comply.
