Chapter 564 - Chapter 564: Chikorita's Jealousy At Pikachu And Eevee

(Today, Mew and her friends arrive at a small town, and Mew is now having a Pokemon battle with a young trainer they meet on their way to Azalea Town.)

(Mew is battling with Chikorita and the young trainer is battling with a Raticate.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Chikorita, Tackle attack!"

Chikorita charges for the attack.

(The young trainer calls out.)

young trainer: "Raticate, Hyper Fang, now!"

(Raticate leaps into battle as it performs Hyper Fang.)

(It strikes Chikorita easily and knocks it back.)

(Mew kneels down and asks.)

Mew: "Chikorita! Are you alright?!"

(Chikorita quickly gets up and charges back into the battle.)

(The young trainer calls out.)

young trainer: "Raticate, stop it with your Quick Attack!"

(Raticate dashes in and nails Chikorita again.)

(Mew then says.)

Mew: "Good job, Chikorita, but I think you had enough for today, so return."

(However, Chikorita refuses.)

Mew: "Didn't you hear me?"

(Mew asks, confused.)

(Watching the battle are Brock and the others.)

(Brock says.)

Brock: "Chikorita's taken a lot of attacks and it's gotta be exhausted. Why would it want to go on?"

Misty: "I don't know, but Mew better call it back, quick."

(Misty says.)

(Chikorita then launches a Razor Leaf attack, and it hits the target.)

Mew: "Nice Razor Leaf, good aim, but it's a good idea for you to get some rest. I'll have Pikachu take over from here..."

(Mew says.)

(However, the mention of Pikachu's name, Chikorita gaze hardens angrily.)

(Mew holds out her Pokeball and calls out.)

Mew: "Chikorita, return!"

(However, Chikorita dodges Mew's attempt to recall her.)

Mew: "Chikorita, I said return!"

(Mew says, and tries calling it back.)

(However, Chikorita keeps leaping away from the red beam of light.)

(Mew, and in fact, everyone is left exasperated and baffled.)

Mew: "Chikorita?"

(Mew says, confused.)

(Suddenly, the young trainer's mother calls out.)

young trainer's mother: "Dinner time!"

(Then the trainer calls back his Pokemon.)

young trainer: "Raticate, return."

(And Raticate returns to the Pokeball.)

(Mew looks to see the sun is setting.)

Mew: "I guess we better call it a draw. It's getting late."

(Mew says.)

young trainer: "Yeah. Besides, I can't wait all night for you to get your Chikorita to listen."

(The boy says, and hurries home.)

young trainer: "Bye."

Mew: "Bye."

(Mew says.)

(Then turns to Chikorita.)

Mew: "Chikorita, we would've won for sure if you'd have just listened to me."

(Then Chikorita is called back to her Pokeball.)

(She looks at Chikorita's Pokeball in concern.)

(Later in the night, Mew and her friends arrive in the Pokemon center and are talking to Professor Oak.)

Professor Oak: "Good to see you again, Mew. How's the journey going?"

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "It's going great, Professor!"

(Mew answers.)

Mew: "I already won a Zephyr Badge at the Violet City gym!"

Professor Oak: "Well, congratulations to you. That's quite an accomplishment. But I hope in all the excitement you don't forget to deliver that GS Ball."

(Professor Oak says.)

Mew: "Don't worry Professor, I won't forget that!"

(Mew says.)

(Just then, Muk comes into the screen.)

(Professor Oak says.)

Professor Oak: "As you can see, your Muk is just as playful and affectionate as ever... especially around dinner time! Stop it Muk! That tickles! Bye for now! Call again soon!"

(Soon, the call ends.)

(Mew then joins the others as the Pokemon are having dinner.)

(Mew happily says.)

Mew: "Looks like everybody's enjoying their dinner."

(However, Mew notices that Chikorita isn't.)

(She is sitting at the window, staring out into the darkness with a forlorn slump.)

(Mew walks over and sits next to Chikorita with a smile.)

Mew: "Hey Chikorita, why don't you go eat with the other Pokemon?"

(Chikorita turns to her with a lovelorn sigh.)

Chikorita: "Chika?" (With them?).

(Then turns her head away snootily as Pikachu and Eevee walk over with small pieces of food.)

(Pikachu says.)

Pikachu: "Pika." (Have some.)

(Then Pikachu and Eevee place the food on the floor next to Chikorita.)

(However, Chikorita turns the offer down, and flicks the food away with her leaf.)

Chikorita: "Chika!" (Leave me alone!)

Jen: "That wasn't nice."

(Jen says.)

Tomo: "Chikorita has been acting weird lately."

(Tomo says.)

(Then Brock asks.)

Brock: "I wonder why Chikorita's been acting so nasty?"

Misty: "Chikorita's in such a bad mood we should start calling it Krabbie."

(Misty says.)

(Suddenly, a familiar voice appears

???: "Pokemon behavior is clearly driven by psychology."

(Everyone turns to see Nurse Joy, but is dressed like a doctor and not her usual nurse outfit.)

(Nurse Joy asks.)

Nurse Joy: "Does that Chikorita belong to you?"

(Everyone looks in surprise.)

Mew: "Aaah, yes ma'am."

(Mew answers.)

Nurse Joy: "And what's your name?"

(Nurse Joy asks.)

(Mew answers.)

Mew: "I'm Mew."

Tomo: "I'm Tomo."

(Tomo says.)

(Then Jen ays.)

Jen: "I'm Jen."

Misty: "I'm Misty."

(Misty says.)

(Then asks.)

Misty: "And I bet your name's Nurse Joy, isn't it?"

Nurse Joy: "Correct!"

(Nurse Joy answers, and adjusts her glasses.)

Nurse Joy: "And I have a degree in Pokemon Psychology from Celadon University. I provide innovative counseling techniques and new Pokemon Therapy!"

Mew: "Therapy? What's Therapy?"

(Mew asks.)

Misty: "Therapy is what helps you with your psychological problems."

(Misty answers.)

Mew: "Oh."

(Mew replies.)

(Just then, Brock comes up and says.)

Brock: "My name is Brock and I need you badly! Uhhh, for psychological counseling I mean! I have this feeling that's hard to describe. Like my heart's filled with emptiness!"

Nurse Joy: "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I only deal with Pokemon."

(Nurse Joy says.)

(But Brock presses.)

Brock: "But you'd find me MUCH more interesting than a Pokemon."

(Then Misty clutches Brock's ear.)

Misty: "I wouldn't bet on it."

(Togepi and Pichu laugh.)

Nurse Joy: "I have an idea, Mew! Why don't you and your Pokemon join me, and we'll have a counseling session?"

(Nurse Joy says.)

Mew: "But... I don't have a problem"

(Mew says.)

Nurse Joy: "Maybe, but I'm going to need your help to explore the issues that may be causing your Chikorita's behavior."

(Nurse Joy says.)

Mew: "Oh... okay..."

(Mew says.)

(Soon, Mew and the others arrive in the counseling session.)

(Misty and the others sitting close by.)

(Chikorita is on a stool between Mew and Nurse Joy.)

(Mew explains everything that has happened earlier today.)

(Nurse Joy takes notes.)

Nurse Joy: "Interesting. You say Chikorita's refusal to return occurred while you were battling another trainer and his Raticate earlier this evening?"

Mew: "That's right, Chikorita took a lot of damage and she was pretty worn out, so I wanted her to return and take a rest. But Chikorita wouldn't let Pikachu take over."

(Mew explains.)

(Then says.)

Mew: "The truth is, this actually isn't the first time that happened, and not just with Pikachu. Chikorita also did the same with Eevee. Before reaching the town when I battle with Chikorita, she seems to act more stubborn when I mention Pikachu or Eevee to switch places with her."

Nurse Joy: "I think I know the problem."

(Nurse Joy says.)

Mew: "What is it?"

(Mew asks.)

Nurse Joy: "Chikorita was suffering from envy."

(Nurse Joy says.)

Mew: "Envy?"

(Mew asks, a little surprised and concerned.)

Mew: "You mean, jealousy?"

(Muffled with a cloth in his mouth, Brock says.)

Brock: "Why do we have to only talk about Chikorita?! When is Nurse Joy gonna concentrate on me?!"

Misty: "One mental case at a time, please."

(Misty says.)

Mew: "So you're saying that Chikorita is jealous of Pikachu and Eevee. But, I give Chikorita plenty of love and attention like all my other, Nurse Joy. Why would she be jealous?"

(Nurse Joy explains.)

Nurse Joy: "You wanted to substitute Pikachu during your earlier just when Chikorita thought she was on the verge of winning a battle for you, so it's understandable that Chikorita feels that you trust and care more for Pikachu, and she's jealous. And I feel it's the same for Eevee."

Mew: "Poor Chikorita."

(Mew sadly says.)

Nurse Joy: "Don't worry, Mew, I think we can work through it."

(Nurse Joy says.)

(Nurse Joy then leads the group into a small garden set up in the Pokemon Center.)

(Instantly, Chikorita leaps out of Mew's arm and onto the grass.)

(Mew smiles to see how happy Chikorita is.)

Mew: "Chikorita is a Grass type Pokemon, So it needs a lot of plants so it can be calmed and comfortable."

(Mew says.)

(As Nurse Joy talks, Chikorita nuzzles against a leaf, looking a little unsure of herself.)

(Brock says.)

Brock: "I'm calm and comfortable when I'm around Nurse Joy... so I guess that must make me HER type!"

(Then Misty pulls him away and says.)

Misty: "Can it, Casanova!"

(Togepi and Pichu chirp and Squeak as he laughs.)

(Nurse Joy turns to Mew.)

Nurse Joy: "Why don't you try to get Chikorita to return to her Pokéball now?"

Mew: "Chikorita, return!"

(Mew calls out, doing just that.)

(Chikorita returns to the Pokeball.)

(Mew turns to Nurse Joy and asks.)

Mew: "Nurse Joy, do you really think this psychology stuff will help my Chikorita?"

Nurse Joy: "Yes I do!"

(Nurse Joy answers.)

Nurse Joy: "The new Pokemon Therapies are quite effective, but I think it's best if your Chikorita stays here in the greenhouse tonight."

Mew: "Sure."

(Mew says, and gives Nurse Joy her Pokeball.)

Pikachu: "Pika." (I hope)

(Pikachu says.)

Eevee: "Eevee." (Me too.)

(Eevee says.)
