Chapter 4 - Bruises

Tessie's POV

I got home after doing an engine check on the tractor. Both parents were home for some odd reason. I parked as my dad came storming out. I got out as he got to my truck.

He grabbed me and threw me onto the driveway. I was shocked. He picked me up and threw me the other way. "Get inside bitch." I got up and hurried inside. My mom was waiting for me.

She grabbed my hair and yanked me down. "You were supposed to pay for groceries last week." She yelled. My head hurt, and I was already getting a headache. My life flashed before me, and I was on the hardwood floor.

She kicked my thighs hard. I wanted to get up but couldn't. She kicked me in the stomach. That hurt. I wanted to scream. She cussed me out before sending me to my room.

I stripped my clothes, already seeing bruises starting to form on my thighs. I grabbed clothes and got a shower in my bathroom, attached to my bedroom. Once I was out, I lay down on my bed.

They wouldn't let me out, no matter how hungry I became. All of my stuff is in my truck, including my phone. I grabbed some clothes and snuck out my window. They won't know I'm gone until they go to beat me again.

I put my truck in neutral and drove it down the driveway. Once on the road, I started it and drove it to the fields. I parked behind the silo and barn hiding my truck.

I got into the backseat after getting the pillow out of my toolbox. I found a granola bar and a bag of snack chips under the seat. That was my supper.

I went to sleep with the windows rolled down partially.

I woke up in the morning and got dressed. My phone charged all night long, so it was good to go. I grabbed another granola bar, knowing it won't keep me full all day.

I got to school before any of them. I got out and sat down on my tailgate. Amber came up and jumped up onto my tailgate. "Finally." She said. "What's wrong?" She asked. I sat back against the side.

"I just hope there's not a whole lot of yelling today," I said. "Headache?" I nodded. My stomach didn't hurt as badly as it did last night, but my thighs were killing me.

"Here, take this." She handed me some ibuprofen and a bottle of water. I took it and thanked her. Then Logan parked next to me. He got out, asking where the rest were.

It was just us three. He got up on my tailgate opposite Amber, right next to me. I scooted over a little. I tried not to wince when I moved. I could tell Logan was watching me because Amber was playing on her phone.

My stomach growled loudly. That granola bar is biting back. Amber and Logan both looked at me with curious looks. "Skipped breakfast," I told them. The rest showed up a few minutes later. All of the guys except Logan were in football jerseys.

Tonight is a home football game, and I'm going to every home game until my parents are arrested. I grabbed my bag and decided to go to first hour.

Kale saw me and moved to the other side of the hall. I looked behind me to see Logan walking right behind me. Now I know who to be standing near when Kale is nearby.

I sat down in my seat and got my notebook out. "You know it's rude not to say anything to me, right?" Kale said, coming over and sitting in front of me. "Out of my way, Edwards." A football player said. Kale immediately got up and moved out of the way, going down the aisle past Logan.

Several desks were moved, and most of the boys in the class laughed. I looked back and saw him on the ground. Logan was also looking back. "You still owe me a date, Tessie."

"It's Tessica to you, Edwards." I smarted. The jock and Logan both were looking at him. The guys were scattered across the room along with the girls.

They heard what I said and yelled, "Roasted." Kale glared at me, and I gave him an innocent look. At the end of math, I jumped up and almost ran out the door. Luckily, I didn't have Kale in my next class.

I entered and sat down in my usual seat. This was another class I had them all in. Logan was the first in. He set something on my desk before sitting behind me.

I looked and it was something from the vending machines. I hid it in my lap. "Thank you," I whispered. "Not another class with your growling stomach." He said. At least this could keep me full until lunch.

All throughout class, I was snacking on it. Once class was over, I got up and walked out, almost running into Kale. He backed off when he saw who was behind me.

I walked to my next class and sat down. Kale came in and sat down behind me. "I wouldn't be hanging around Logan. He's been to jail for fighting and partying." He told me.

I ignored him completely. Once class was over, he stopped me short. "I don't think so." He said, trying to drag me away. I fought against him.

"You fight anymore and I'm going to drag you out of the building and make sure you don't fight me again." He said through gritted teeth.

"Is there a problem here?" Aaron asked, coming up to me. Kale smirked. "No, there is not," Kale told him. "Then you better let her go before I bruise you." He told Kale. Kale just chuckled.

I stomped on his foot before kneeing him in a certain area. He dropped low enough for me to knee him in the stomach. He let me go, and I walked off. Glaring at him.
