Chapter 8 - Out of here

I woke up to pressure on my bed. I looked over to see the one who said he gets his chores done early just to spend time with me. "Good morning. I brought you breakfast." He said to set a bag on my bed.

"Morning." I got out. Not as sore as yesterday, but still a lot. "My parents came by trying to get into the room last night after the call," I told him. "I wish I could stay with you tonight, but I don't think my parents would allow that." He said.

"Stay as long as you can?" "I'll try, ok?" He asked. "Ok," I replied. Then his phone went off. "Hang on just a second, ok?" I watched as he quickly walked out to answer. I looked in the bag, finding something I could get protein and carbs from.

I ate it while he was outside the door. When he came in, I was over halfway done with it. "My parents wanted to know where I was. My mom said she'd drop by later with lunch. She's the only one I've told about you, and she's anxious to meet you." He said, halfway chuckling.

Tomorrow is Monday, so I'll be alone all day long. "What am I going to do about school?" I asked. "We have the same teachers, so I'll get your homework and bring it to you. Then I'll help you figure out what to do." He told me. If I weren't this sore, I'd sit up and hug him.

He was great company. At lunch, his mom came in. I got to meet her. "Logan, your father isn't going to know what to do with you." She said after meeting me.

"Um, mom, may I talk to you outside really quickly?" He asked her. When they came back in Logan sat in a chair, and his mom sat next to him. "Normally, we don't do this, but we have room for an extra person to stay with us." She said.

"We all know what it's like to be cooped up in the hospital. Especially when it's for something like a car wreck or..." Logan nudged her. "What I mean to say is that if they'll let you, we can have you over at our house. You won't have to deal with your parents at all, and you'll be safe there on the ranch." She explained.

Then there was yelling in the hall. I could hear my parents' voices loud and clear. Logan was the first to jump up and stand between me and the people on the other side of the door.

The door flew open. Security and two officers were trying to keep my parents out. Once they were gone, two nurses came in. "She has to be moved from this room." One of the nurses said. "What if she wasn't at the hospital at all?" His mom asked.

"She would be safer, but could also risk reinjuring herself." The other said. "If it means she's safer, then she can leave," Logan said. "Yes, but who is going to watch her?" The first one asked.

Logan looked at his mom. "Nana can't she? Until I get out of school and my chores are done?" His mom nodded. "Yeah, she's done it before." His mom replied.

"Ok. We'll talk to the doctor about it and get back to you on it." The second said as they were leaving. Once it was closed, Logan hurried over to my right side.

"Let's see if you can at least stand." He said. I pushed the covers back, wanting to get out of bed. He helped me up and onto my feet.

Pain shot through my thighs. He held me up as I sat back down. "I can stand long enough to at least sit in the wheelchair," I told them. "That's all we need then." He said.

The doctor came in with the two nurses. "I'll have to come out every two days to see her progress. Either that or a doctor who lives closer. Is there one retired near you?" He asked them.

"I think your grandpa said something about Mr. Murphry used to work as an ER doctor. He retired before you were born." Logan's mom said. "Yeah, and if we couldn't get to the ER, we'd call him and have him come over. I think he would do it." Logan told her.

The doctor nodded, knowing who they were talking about. "I'll give him a call later. If he doesn't exactly agree, you can call him. I'll let you know what he says. Right now, I think you should get her settled." The doctor said before leaving.

One nurse took the IV off and the needle out of my arm. The other was brought in a wheelchair. Somehow, I already had sweats and a long-sleeved shirt here. I was able to get the clothes on without help. Logan helped me into the wheelchair, and the nurse pushed me out.

My ribs were already hurting. "With my truck, it should be an easier ride due to the suspension put on," Logan said. His mom nodded. Once in his truck, I was put in the front seat.

He leaned it back far enough, and it was scooted up. His mom was already heading to the ranch. He got in and started it. "Oh, and one of the guys drove your truck to Amber's." He mentioned.

Once there, he was careful going over the cattle guard. Then turned right. I've never been here before, so I have no idea what it's like. He parked as close as he could to the house and got out.

He came around to my side and carried me in. Down the hall, first door on the left. He set me on the bed, making sure I was comfy. "I'll be back with some ice, ok? That should help numb the bruising and pain."

Now that sounded nice. He came back with three bags of ice. He set two on my thighs and the third on my ribs gently. "Get some sleep, ok? I'm going over to talk to my nana real quick, then I'll be back." He said before kissing my forehead and cheek.

Never has a guy been this nice. I did just that. I fell asleep on the bed.
