Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: I’m Not Skilled With the Sword

After confirming the information in his mind, Michael muttered:

"So this… this is what you're really after, huh?"

At that moment, Michael believed he had finally figured out why the werewolves were after him—it had to be the Dragon Ball.

After all, he was just an ordinary person. There was no reason for monsters like that to be after him—only the Dragon Ball could drive them to madness.

At the same time, Michael's face twisted, his breathing turned rapid, and in his heart, he screamed:

Dragon Balls… the wish-granting Dragon Balls.

Why must there be seven to make a wish?

Why not just one?

What's a regular guy like me supposed to do?

After that mental outburst, Michael deflated like a balloon. He knew he couldn't protect the Dragon Ball.

If I can't protect it, maybe I can trade it for something.

"Hiss—"

Michael gasped in pain as a sudden sharp stab surged through his shoulder. It reminded him of the bite he received from that man.

As a doctor, it didn't matter whether the guy was a human or a werewolf—he needed to get a rabies vaccine, and fast.

He muttered to himself:

"Hopefully it's not too late."

He checked the time. Less than 24 hours had passed.

Michael threw on a coat, tucked the Dragon Ball into his pocket, and rushed to the hospital where he worked.

Once there, he located a rabies vaccine and injected himself. Just then, a colleague walked by.

"Rabies vaccine?"

"Michael, did a dog bite you?"

Michael responded sarcastically:

"You'll never believe this. It wasn't a dog. It was a man."

His colleague looked stunned and quipped:

"You sure you didn't run into someone high out of their mind?"

He then gave Michael a few words of comfort—but after walking away, immediately reported Michael's appearance to the police.

Realizing his colleague had alerted the authorities, Michael had no choice but to escape through a window. Two police officers quickly gave chase.

Though they looked like regular cops, both were actually werewolves.

Meanwhile—

Soren found Selene and shared his suspicions with her.

"Selene, we have to notify the Elder. We've likely been deceived by Kraven."

When she heard that Lucian—the werewolf leader—was still alive, Selene was stunned. This had escalated far beyond a minor issue.

Even with the Dragon Ball mission looming, she couldn't ignore the threat of Lucian's survival.

Anyone who had experienced the war between vampires and werewolves knew just how brutal it was.

Soren, conflicted, said:

"But the Elder scheduled to awaken this century is Marcus. The ceremony preparations were all for him."

"Selene, who are you going to awaken? Elder Viktor or Marcus?"

The vampires operated under a rotating Elder system. Only one Elder ruled each century, and the Elders never met. After their term, each Elder would fall into a deep slumber and could only be awakened by fresh blood.

The current ruling Elder was Amelia. The next in line was Marcus. Viktor was the Elder from the previous century.

Considering the Dragon Ball situation, Selene grew wary. She couldn't allow Marcus to be awakened—or at least, not with her blood.

With a wish on the line, who could say whether that old man would act for the good of the vampire race or for his own desires?

Selene gritted her teeth.

"Wake up my father—Viktor. After all, Kraven was his protégé, and the one he left in power before falling asleep. He must be the one to deal with this."

Soren didn't know Selene's inner thoughts. He said:

"But this would violate tradition. If you break the rules, no one else will bear the consequences but you."

Then Soren extended his arm and said:

"Take my memories about Lucian. You'll need them when you awaken the Elder."

Selene didn't hesitate. She bit into Soren's wrist.

Through the blood, his memories surged into her mind like a whirlwind.

She absorbed all the information about Lucian and the fight between Soren and the werewolves before releasing his arm.

"That's enough. I have no desire to relive your long, boring life."

Vampires could explore a person's memories through their blood. It started from the most recent and could trace back through their entire life—if the vampire so desired.

Selene made her way to the chamber where the two Elders slept.

Breaking with protocol, she offered her own blood to awaken the sleeping vampire Elder—Viktor.

Thanks to the memory-sharing power of blood, she also transmitted all the thoughts she wanted to share—including her knowledge about the Dragon Balls.

Elsewhere—

Aleksei and Mr. X had arrived at the Assassin Brotherhood's London base.

Upon seeing the two men, the London branch leader respectfully said:

"Elder. Arbiter. Welcome."

Mr. X had been a senior Elder of the Assassin's League prior to God's rise to power, while Aleksei had been granted the role of Arbiter.

Mr. X asked:

"How's the intel verification coming?"

The branch leader replied:

"We've confirmed that both werewolves and vampires do exist in London."

"Based on our investigation, several disappearances are linked to the werewolves."

"As for the vampires, we haven't yet found strong evidence of harm—but informants claim they're involved in heinous acts like torture, livestock blood farming, and the use of blood slaves…"

Mr. X nodded.

"Leave all the data and personnel lists behind."

The leader respectfully left the materials, then exited.

Once the door closed, Aleksei said:

"Can't believe werewolves and vampires actually exist. I always thought they were fantasy creatures."

"Guess I was wrong. This world just keeps getting more interesting."

Mr. X opened a case. Inside were four weapons—two categories: silver bullets and ultraviolet bullets. The former for werewolves, the latter for vampires.

"Aleksei, I've heard they both have impressive healing abilities. Are you planning to go barehanded?"

Aleksei pulled out a silver longsword.

"I'm not exactly skilled with the sword…"

"But against these mutts and flying freaks, I'll manage."

"Ten-something battle power? They're no match for me."

"What's our next move?"

"Do we take them out directly?"

As Mr. X equipped the weapons and ammo, he responded:

"Next, we observe these so-called werewolves and vampires. This London trip just got a whole lot more fun."
